Job summary

Regional Municipality of Wood Buffalo is seeking an Officer, Access and Privacy to lead ATIA/POPA compliance, conduct privacy assessments, and manage information requests. The role focuses on implementing privacy programs, advising senior leadership, and coordinating with departments to ensure lawful information handling.

Reporting to the Manager, Legal Services, this position requires strong communication, project management, and records management skills, with a commitment to public service

Qualifications

• Clear understanding and extensive knowledge of Alberta's ATIA and POPA regulations.
• Ability to interpret legislation and apply it with sound judgement in municipal settings.
• Ability to handle sensitive matters and maintain confidentiality.
• Excellent verbal and written communication; ability to clarify interpretation of ATIA/POPA.
• Develop and maintain professional relationships with stakeholders and staff.
• Strong project management skills; lead initiatives and meetings.
• Organizational skills to manage changing priorities and strict deadlines.
• Ability to work within public/political environments.
• Strong problem solving, research, and investigative skills.
• Proficiency with Microsoft Office and electronic records management tools.

Responsibilities

• Program Management: support branch operations; manage administration of Access and Privacy programs; ensure responses meet legislation and timelines.
• Legislative Compliance: liaise with the OIPC; review access to information requests; conduct privacy impact assessments; coordinate with staff and third parties.
• Advice, Guidance, and Training: provide expert guidance on ATIA/POPA; develop training materials and privacy plans; support privacy compliance initiatives.
