What your day-to-day will look like:
  • Become one of the most senior individual contributors on the diligence and underwriting team at Clearco
  • Conduct reviews of Clearco customers to reach robust credit decisions
  • Develop and refine detailed risk frameworks for these decisions alongside the credit team
  • Work collaboratively with internal stakeholders to complete ad-hoc requests and projects, often with time constraints
  • Continually stay abreast of underwriting best practices and expand knowledge
  • Undertake detailed financial statement analysis to evaluate the financial health of Clearco customers and prospects and effectively communicate findings to key stakeholders
  • Test and refine specific financial metrics and ratios Clearco uses in its financial statement analysis to enhance the efficiency and accuracy of Clearco’s underwriting process
  • Maintain expert knowledge of and adherence to Clearco’s internal financial underwriting framework, authorization limits and escalation processes
  • Build positive relationships and trust among key stakeholders and serve as a risk advisor to Credit & Risk leadership
  • Conduct regular, ongoing analysis of the Clearco portfolio in order to identify risks and assist with the development of action plans for remediation
You will thrive if you have:
  • Graduated from an analytics, business, accounting, economics, or finance program
  • 7+ years of finance, credit underwriting, consulting, commercial banking, private equity, analytics, or investment banking experience
  • Prior experience underwriting SMB credit, preferably at a commercial bank or comparable specialty finance platform
  • Extensive knowledge of and experience in financial underwriting, credit analysis, investment operations and/or risk management
  • A passion for diving deep into company data and conducting thorough financial statement and credit analysis
  • Familiarity with the e-commerce landscape, business models, and metrics
  • Experience leading and motivating high-performance teams in a remote‑first culture
  • Strong analytical abilities to simplify sophisticated problems
  • Excellent communication, interpersonal, and collaboration skills
  • Confidence in building and presenting training modules on finance and risk management
  • Strong ability to write reports and conduct statistical analysis with clear recommendations
  • Sound knowledge of general compliance requirements as they relate to privacy, know-your‑customer and anti‑money laundering protocols
  • A results‑oriented mindset, with a passion for exceeding goals, and a proven track record of success
  • Are a builder and can identify room for improvement; Clearco is building for scalability and constantly improving our processes and procedures
  • Accountability to own mistakes and development; comfortable with radical candour
  • Strong customer‑facing experience; you’re highly‑experienced at taking external meetings and are confident leading discussions and negotiations
