Job summary

General Motors of Canada is seeking a Staff Engineer of Software Engineering, Embedded Platform, to define architecture, standards and strategy for building, testing, and deploying virtualized vehicle software. You will lead CI/CD initiatives for embedded, simulation, and cloud workloads, while expanding into IaC, GitOps, and data-driven simulation.

You will mentor DevOps and simulation teams, drive process improvements, and ensure quality and safety in real-time embedded systems.

The Role:

General Motors is seeking a highly skilled and experienced professional to join our team as theStaff Engineer of Software Engineering, Embedded Platform. As a Continuous Integration Developer (Architect Level), you will define the architecture, standards, and strategy for how GM builds, tests, and deploys virtualized vehicle software. You’ll leverage your strengths in CI/CD, embedded systems, and automation while expanding into cloud orchestration, IaC, progressive delivery, and data driven simulation. This role is ideal for someone ready to broaden their technical impact and shape the future of GM’s virtual development platform.   • Design GitOps-based delivery for multi-cluster Kubernetes environments.
  • Lead progressive delivery strategy including automated rollback and analysis
  • Establish IaC architecture using Terraform modules and multi-environment patterns.
  • Integrate security and compliance into pipelines and artifact flows.
  • Define observability standards for pipelines, simulation workloads, and runtime systems.
  • Mentor DevOps and simulation developers across the organization.
Qualifications/Requirements
  • Bachelor's degree in software engineering or equivalent experience
  • 15 years of experience in software development
  • Deep understanding of software architecture for real time systems
  • Experience shipping high quality safety critical products
  • Exceptional problem-solving and analytical abilities, with a keen attention to detail
  • Demonstrated ability to manage multiple projects and priorities in a fast-pacedenvironment.
  • Demonstrated ability to work in an action-oriented decision-making environment
  • Deep Kubernetes knowledge including cluster operations.
  • Strong Terraform/IaC experience with production-grade module design.
  • Experience with embedded or simulation workflows (vECUs, SIL, FMU, SSP).
  • Cloud architecture experience across AWS, Azure, or GCP.
Compensation:

The salary range for this role is $186,000 to $236,000. The actual base salary a successful candidate will be offered within this range will vary based on factors relevant to the position.
