Job summary

Lycopodium is seeking a Principal Project Planner for our Vancouver-based Projects team. You will report to the Project Controls and Planning Manager and establish and maintain the Project Schedule, leading planning for EP/EPCM/EPC projects and ensuring timely, accurate reporting.

With 15+ years of scheduling experience in mining, oil & gas or heavy industrial projects and expert Primavera P6 skills, you will coordinate with clients and internal teams to deliver high-quality planning outputs and

  • Bachelor of Engineering or equivalent preferred.
  • Minimum 15 years in project-related scheduling and planning.
  • Experience with mining, oil & gas, heavy industrial or large projects.
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills.

Responsibilities

  • Establish and maintain the Project Schedule across lifecycle stages.
  • Lead planning for EP/EPCM/EPC projects and coordinate reporting.
  • Define WBS and master schedule baselines for engineering, procurement, and construction.
  • Provide specialist advice and mentor planning team members.
  • Coordinate with internal/external clients to create integrated schedules.

Lycopodium is currently recruiting for a Principal Project Planner to join our growing Projects team.

Reporting to the Project Controls and Planning Manager, the Principal Project Planner is responsible for establishing and maintaining the Project Schedule and to lead the management and reporting on project activities in a timelyand consistently accurate manner.

The tasks you'll perform
  • Support the Project Manager and the Planning team to ensure the Project Schedules are put in place and maintained and that they provide quality up-to-date data to assist with the management of project activities.
  • Develop and maintain the various (project specific and Company) procedures, work practices, plans, systems and protocols to enable efficient work and maintain a consistent approach and high standard of work.
  • Provide specialist advice in designated areas of expertise.
  • Work collaboratively with personnel across all business units
  • Prepare and effectuate overall project planning, for the entire project lifecycle, for EP/EPCM/EPC projects.
  • Define WBS and generate master schedule baseline for engineering, procurement, and construction activities.
  • Conversion of study schedule to the Project Schedule using the project approved software package.
  • Creation, implementation and maintenance of Project Schedule.
  • Develop a different level of schedule for the project as well as supporting the business development group during the proposal phase.
  • Coordination of Project Reporting in accordance with project, Company and Client requirements.
  • Ability to work with an internal and external client to create integrated EPC/client schedules.
  • Timely identification, notification, optimization, and recording of schedule scenarios supporting trends items that have the potential for future impact within project scope.
  • Create, adjust, and assess resource loading / leveling.
  • Ensure overall schedules and plans are achieved to a consistently high standard. Respond immediately to change to ensure projects are completed on time in accordance with the contractual scope of work and services
  • Confirm all implementation approaches and controls are reasonable in their establishment and are met throughout the project.
  • Responsible and accountable for all Project planning functions carried out on designated Projects, whether handled personally or delegated to subordinate staff members.
  • Ensure the quality of output of the allocated Planning team, and that it is aligned with the needs of the project / study, the company’s objectives and meets the requirements of the client.
  • Communicate immediately with the client on matters that affect the project goals.
  • Manage all members of the planning team in compliance with applicable project / study specific requirements and current industry work codes and standards.
  • Perform critical path analysis and advise the Project Manager and the Commercial Manager immediately on matters that negatively affect project goals.
  • Provide project support and input to proposals, customer presentations, and other marketing / business development activities as required. Prepare schedules for written proposals as requested.
  • Collate and compile project reporting requirements in accordance with company and Client standards to a high level of accuracy and professionalism.
  • Register and file all relevant project documentation in accordance to the Company approved procedures.
  • Proactively support other team members as required to ensure Project deliverables are met.
  • Contribute to Planning team members in trainings professional development by providing consistent mentoring and identify avenues of development.
  • Ensure a high level of communication is attained within the Planning team.
  • Suggest methods to improve operational efficiency within the Planning team.
  • Develop and contribute to the delivery of improvement initiatives which support business priorities for continuous improvement.
  • Maintain a high level of communication is attained within the Planning team.
  • Provide leadership, guidance, direction and training to the Planning team as required.
The expertise you'll bring
  • Bachelor of Engineering or equivalent preferred.
  • A minimum of 15 years’ experience in project-related scheduling and planning for Mining, Oil & Gas, Heavy industrial, Power or other larges project types
  • Must be experienced with Primavera P6 to an advance level and still be hands on / practicing the skill.
  • Extremely well-developed written and verbal communication skills.
  • Build and sustain positive relationships with all stakeholders, including clients, vendors and co-workers.
  • Display the core values and ethos of the business.
  • Solid technical aptitude, analytical and problem-solving skills.
  • Provide mentoring and identify avenues of professional development and succession planning for personnel within your business unit.
  • Capacity to delegate appropriately.
  • Ability to work effectively with minimal supervision whilst consistently producing a high quality of deliverables.
  • Demonstrated ability to achieve consistently high standards within both budgetary and schedule constraints.

  • High attention to detail and exceptional knowledge of Project Planning and Management.

The expected salary range for this role is $175,000 to $185,000.This range is based on the role's job family andlevel and reflects a good faith estimate for the role at the time of posting.Your final offer will depend on factorssuch as market conditions, internal equity and candidateexperience,skills,andqualifications relevant to the role.We believe in fair,competitivepay that reflects the valueyoubring to the team.
