Surrounded by world-renowned nature and globally inspired cuisine, the office brings together many of Teck's corporate functions - all working toward Teck's purpose of providing the essential resources the world relies on.

About Santiago Office

Teck's Corporate Office in Santiago is the administrative center for our mining operations in Chile, providing support to Quebrada Blanca (QB) in the Tarapacá Region and Carmen de Andacollo in Coquimbo.

Role Overview

Reporting to the Director, Mine Engineering, the Principal Mine Engineer plays a critical technical role within Teck's Mine Engineering team - a specialized unit within the broader Geoscience, Reserves & Mining sub-function of the Technical and Planning enterprise group. This team is composed of professionals focused on Long-Term Mine Planning, Short-Term Mine Planning, Drill and Blast Engineering, and Production Geology.

With a primary focus on mine planning, the Principal Mine Engineer is responsible for the development and sustainment of the assurance processes related to mine optimization, design, and scheduling across Teck's assets portfolio. This includes both long-term and short-term planning activities. The role is central to ensuring the quality and consistency of mine planning practices that directly support operational efficiency, project value, and long-term business performance. The Principal Engineer also provides targeted technical support during peak workloads or for high-priority initiatives, applying in depth mine planning expertise and strong analytical skills.

The position contributes directly to Teck's financial performance and technical credibility through the responsible and fit for purpose application of mine planning principles that underpin safe, sustainable, and economically optimized mine designs. This requires close collaboration with site teams, Technical & Planning, and the Project Development Group to ensure planning outcomes are aligned with broader business objectives.

Strong communication and relationship-building skills are essential to success in this role. The Principal Mine Engineer will work closely with both site and corporate teams, including peers across Technical and Planning, to ensure alignment on planning standards, identify improvement opportunities, and help drive value across the enterprise. The position is based in Vancouver or Santiago Chile, and includes occasional travel to operational sites (approximately 15%).

Don't miss out on this exciting opportunity to be part of one of Canada's leading mining companies and join our team!

  • Provide targeted technical support during peak workloads or high-priority initiatives, including the creation of mine planning deliverables required by site teams (e.g., designs, schedules, layouts, or other planning outputs).
  • Conduct peer reviews, technical checks, and validation of mine plans to ensure quality, consistency, and compliance with standards.
  • Keep up with industry trends, technologies, and best practices in mine planning; contribute to innovation strategies and evaluate design, optimization, and scheduling software.
  • Mentor and support less experienced engineers within the team or across operations. Participate actively in development and succession planning.
  • Identify knowledge gaps to spot opportunities or risks, and apply solutions to improve mine engineering.
Qualifications
  • Bachelor's degree in Mine Engineering, with P.Eng. designation (or eligibility) required.
  • +15 years of progressive mine engineering experience, with significant time spent in operational short-term planning environments and additional exposure to medium- and long-term planning functions.
  • Deep technical proficiency in short-term planning, including production design, bench/shift sequencing, compliance tracking, integration with drill & blast, and interfaces with production geology and operations.
  • Advanced expertise in long-term planning (pit design, strategic scheduling, optimization), with the ability to connect tactical and strategic plans seamlessly.
  • Highly proficient with mine planning software such as Deswik, MineSight, Vulcan, COMET, or equivalent platforms.
  • Strong understanding of plan operationalization, ensuring designs and schedules translate into safe, efficient, and executable field activities.
