Job Purpose
Primarily responsible for growing and managing a defined group of principals and products within the Nutrition and Function Pillar portfolio. The Principal Manager will work in collaboration with IMCD team members across various departments and will also work directly with principals.
Duties and Responsibilities
- Build and manage relationships with the defined list of principals.
- Support the commercial team to grow the principal line.
- Communicate the strategies and objectives for each principal to our sales team, ensuring alignment with their expectations and IMCD’s objectives.
- Work with team members from various departments to increase sales opportunities and maximize revenue and margin.
- Conduct research to identify potential customers.
- Identify business opportunities, generate warm leads, and seek out partnerships.
- Lead the sales team to handle client objections by clarifying information, emphasizing benefits, and working through differences to a positive conclusion.
- Liaise with senior management to determine organizational strategy and initiatives.
- Attend industry functions and provide feedback and information on emerging trends.
- Identify opportunities for campaigns, services, and distribution channels that will lead to increased sales.
- Use knowledge of the market and competitors to identify and develop the company’s unique selling propositions and differentiators.
- Ensure that data is accurately entered and managed within the company’s sales management system.
- Forecast sales targets and ensure they are met by the sales team.
- Maintain extensive knowledge of current market conditions.
- Track and record activity on accounts and help to close deals and meet targets.
- Prepare monthly principal reports, opportunity progress reports, and annual budget reports.
- Participate in principal line reviews.
- Review and proactively manage issues related to slow‑moving inventory and NCRs.
- Work with SCA to ensure optimal supply/inventory of material.
- Other duties as assigned.
Qualifications/Competencies
- Minimum of five (5) years experience in the food industry.
- Minimum of three (3) years experience in sales.
- B.S. Degree in Science or related fields.
- Principal relationship management experience will be an asset.
- Proven understanding of the industry and area of service.
- Excellent organizational, strategic, planning, and implementation skills.
- Ability to create realistic schedules and meet deadlines under stress and interruptions.
- High level of critical and logical thinking, analysis, and reasoning to identify underlying principles, reasons, and facts.
- Strong analytical and research skills.
- Excellent interpersonal, communication, and relationship management skills.

Work Conditions
- Manual dexterity required to use desktop computer and peripherals.
- Ability to attend and conduct presentations.
- Travel will be required.
