About us

Tecsys is a fast-growing innovator offering supply chain solutions to industry leading healthcare systems, hospitals, and pharmacy businesses to distributors, retailers, and 3PLs. We work with industry leaders to transform their supply chains through technology. If you thrive on tackling interesting challenges with continuous learning opportunities, then Tecsys could be a good fit for you!

We are looking for a Principal (Java) Developer. You’ll be part of a mission-driven team building impactful solutions across healthcare, retail, and complex distribution. As a Principal (Java) Developer, your decisions will guide the evolution of our systems and influence the success of multiple teams.

We're collaborative, curious, and passionate about building systems that make a difference. If you’re equally comfortable writing code, mentoring engineers, and aligning technology with real-world needs — we’d love to meet you.

As a Principal (Java) Developer, you will play a pivotal role in designing and scaling backend systems that power the mission-critical supply chains of industries like healthcare, retail, and complex distribution. From hospital operating rooms to warehouse floors and retail storefronts, your technical leadership will directly impact the performance, reliability, and agility of our customers’ operations. You\'ll lead by example—bringing deep technical expertise, business awareness, and architectural vision to a platform that supports some of the most demanding logistics environments.

As a hands-on contributor and technical mentor, you’ll work cross-functionally to build secure, performant services, influence technical direction, and continuously improve our engineering practices. Your ability to collaborate across disciplines, communicate clearly, and drive initiatives forward will make you an indispensable part of our team.

Responsibilities
  • Design, develop, and deploy high-quality backend solutions using Java (Spring Boot, microservices).
  • Serve as a technical reference across the team—conducting code reviews, driving design discussions, and mentoring other developers.
  • Evaluate and introduce emerging technologies where they add value to our platform.
  • Translate complex business needs into scalable technical solutions in collaboration with product and business stakeholders.
  • Own and advocate for best practices in performance, scalability, observability, and security.
  • Partner with DevOps and Operations teams to ensure software is production-ready and maintainable.
  • Participate in agile ceremonies, lead retrospectives, and champion continuous improvement in team processes and outcomes.
  • Promote a culture of collaboration, innovation, and accountability.
Qualifications
  • 7+ years of experience building Java-based backend systems in production environments.
  • Deep understanding of object-oriented design, microservices architecture, and RESTful services.
  • Strong experience with Spring Boot, Java 11+, and testing frameworks (JUnit, Mockito).
  • Solid foundation in RDBMS (PostgreSQL, Oracle, SQL Server) and familiarity with NoSQL databases (a plus).
  • Experience with Git, Maven, and modern IDEs (IntelliJ, Eclipse)
  • Demonstrated success in designing and delivering scalable solutions within complex, distributed system architectures.
  • Proven leadership skills—able to inspire, mentor, and bring clarity to complex problems.
  • Strong business orientation: you align engineering efforts with product outcomes and organizational goals.
  • Excellent communication and collaboration skills—you\'re a connector between teams, roles, and disciplines.
  • Degree in Computer Science, Software Engineering, or a related field.
  • Strong proficiency in both written and verbal English communication essential for effective correspondence with clients, suppliers, business partners, and colleagues beyond the province of Quebec.
Nice to Have
  • Front-end experience with HTML5, TypeScript/JavaScript, CSS3, React.
  • Experience with Docker, Kubernetes, or other containerization technologies.
  • Familiarity with AWS or other cloud platforms (Azure, GCP); experience with serverless a plus.
  • Understanding of CI/CD pipelines, observability tooling, and modern DevOps practices.
  • Exposure to healthcare, logistics, or supply chain domains.
  • Experience building or consuming SOAP APIs (legacy integrations).
  • Bilingualism (English/French) is an asset in our bilingual environment.
