Job summary

Capital One Canada is seeking a Principal Associate, Software Engineer to join the Travel - Full Stack team. You’ll help build the end-to-end Travel portal, aligning with product goals and customer needs across the full technology stack.

You’ll work in a collaborative, Agile environment, applying TDD, AWS-based cloud patterns and modern tooling to deliver scalable solutions. Hybrid work model with strong benefits and career growth opportunities.

Qualifications

• At least 4 years of hands-on experience in application development using JavaScript, Java, TypeScript, SQL, Python or Go.
• Experience with TDD and Agile methodologies preferred.
• Cloud experience with AWS and microservices architecture is a plus.
• Educational background in CS, software engineering or IT.

Responsibilities

• Develop full-stack applications for the Travel portal across multiple projects.
• Follow Test Driven Development from inception to production.
• Explore and evaluate new tools, technologies and practices.
• Mentor engineers and participate in internal/external tech communities.
• Communicate effectively to advance engineering practices and documentation.
• Work within Agile teams to design, develop, test and support technical solutions.

Your Responsibilities:

• Working on a variety of projects focusing on full stack development, infrastructure, tooling, platform engineering, developer experience and data engineering.

• Create exciting new applications using object oriented programming methodologies.

• Following TDD approach from inception to production.

• Explore and evaluate new and emerging software tools, technologies, and practices.

• Share your passion for staying on top of tech trends, experimenting with and learning new technologies, participating in internal & external technology communities, mentoring other members of the engineering community

• Support the continued professionalization of the engineering practice in the studio with effective communication and advocacy in public speaking, presentations, documentation, etc.

• Work within and across Agile teams to design, develop, test, implement and support technical solutions across a full-stack of development tools and technologies.

• Identify gaps and solve problems to completion.

Basic Qualifications

• At least 4 years of hands‑on experience in Application Development using at least one or more of the following programming languages - JavaScript, Java, TypeScript, SQL, Python, or Go

Preferred Qualifications

• At least 6 years of experience in at least one of the following: JavaScript, Java, TypeScript, SQL, Python, or Go

• Bachelor's, Master’s or Diploma in Computer Science, Software Engineering, Information Technology or in related field

• Experience with Test Driven Development

• Experience working in an Agile environment

• Experience with AWS and/or AWS Certification (Solution Architect-Associate preferred)

• Experience in distributed systems, API, microservices, data processing, databases(relational, NoSQL or time-series), streaming or messaging platforms, DevOps, resilience and stability

The expected annual salary range for this position is $148,120 - $169,050. This role is also eligible to earn performance based incentive compensation, which may include cash bonus(es). Incentives could be discretionary or non discretionary depending on the plan.
