Position Overview
We currently have 1 full-time position available at CFB Cold Lake. In these unique roles, the Public Health Services Technologist (also known as Preventative Medicine Technician) specialized expertise, knowledge, and skills in the areas of public health related programs.
Responsibilities
The required tasks for this occupational group include the following:
- Conduct public health inspections for DND and CAF facilities located both on and off Base; verifying compliance for food services, accommodations, potable and recreational water etc. Facilities include, but are not limited to daycares, public pools & spas, cadet camps, armories, personal services facilities and recreational facilities.
- Communicable disease investigation and reporting.
- Provide food safety courses and health hazard briefings.
- Conduct compliance inspections.
- Conduct sampling to include; collect samples, e.g. water, food and surface; interpret and analyze sampling data; liaise with accredited analytical laboratories as well as government and civilian regulatory agencies; and recommend public health measures to ensure workplace compliance with relevant legislation.
- Prepare and submit public health reports for each inspection to the task manager within 15 calendar days of the inspection date. Reports must include executive summary of analysis and recommendations; purpose of inspection; relevant laws, regulations, and policies; sampling results; analysis; discrepancies observed and recommendations to senior medical authority on public health matters including associated legislation, regulations, policies and directives.
- Participate in briefings to senior management.
- Operate, calibrate and maintain public health sampling equipment.
- Maintain and order public health related products and consumable supplies.
- The work may be carried out in various environments and the person may be exposed to high noise levels, heat, cold and wet/slippery conditions. Expendable PPE (i.e. ear protection, eye protection) will be provided by DND.
Qualifications
All Public Health Services Technologists must have:
- A Certificate in Public Health Inspection (Canada) from the Board of Certification (BOC) of the Canadian Institute of Public Health Inspectors (CIPHI), along with ongoing membership and participation in CIPHI’s Continuing Competencies Program.
- A valid provincial driver’s license (while access to DND vehicles and drivers may be provided, Public Health Services Technologists should be prepared to use their Privately Owned Motor Vehicle (POMV).
Additional Requirements
You will be able to obtain a Government Security Clearance at the Reliability level.
