Job description
Position Description:

The Environmental Services Department is responsible for the operations and maintenance of the County’s storm water systems, water treatment, water distribution, wastewater collection, solid waste management and wastewater treatment facilities and associated infrastructure.

Responsibilities:
  • Assist staff with various job duties and projects relating to these functions.
  • Provide assistance with the review of engineering drawings for new developments and capital reconstruction projects.
  • Update existing and create new process flow diagrams for the County’s water and wastewater treatment facilities.
  • Review sanitary sewer video inspection reports, analyzing bacteriological and chemical sample results.
  • Assist with updates to the County’s GIS asset management system for water and wastewater infrastructure.
  • Work on special projects as assigned.
  • Assist with preventative maintenance programs.
  • Support the Project Manager of preventative maintenance with daily project coordination tasks, including tracking progress, scheduling updates, and communicating with contractors and staff.
  • Help prepare and review project documentation such as status reports, work orders, maps, and technical drawings.
  • Attend site visits or inspections with the Project Manager to observe projects, construction or maintenance work.
  • Organize and maintain project files, both digital and physical, ensuring accuracy and accessibility.
  • Collect and input data into new and/or existing spreadsheets and other County specific programming/software.
  • Assist in reviewing vendor submittals, bids, and invoices for accuracy and compliance.
  • Take meeting notes, prepare summaries, and help follow up on action items.
  • Support internal communication between departments (e.g., operations, engineering, finance).
  • Learn and expand knowledge base on regulatory compliance and safety standards for water/wastewater infrastructure.
Qualifications:
  • University or college student enrolled in an environmental-related discipline such as Civil or Environmental Engineering, Environmental Studies, or Geography.
  • Valid Class G2 Driver’s License.
  • Computer expertise, especially advanced knowledge in AutoCAD, ArcGIS, and Microsoft Office (Excel and Visio).
  • Knowledge of the Occupational Health and Safety Act.
  • Good time management, interpersonal, communication, and problem-solving skills.
  • Experience in general operation of office equipment (e.g., fax, photocopier).
Note:

Must be willing to work weekends, evenings, and holidays. Employment is conditional upon attendance at all training sessions, submission of required documentation/certification, adherence to minimum age requirements, and ability to meet the employment term. At the time of application, must be enrolled in a post-secondary education institution.
