Job summary

Aspira Hygate Waterloo Retirement Living is seeking a Prep Cook to join the on-call kitchen team at 215 Lexington Rd, Waterloo, ON. You will prepare nutritious meals and support residents’ dietary needs with care and respect.

This Casual (On-Call) role involves fast-paced dining, teamwork, and adherence to safety standards. A minimum Grade 12 and Safe Food Handling certification are required; Smart Serve is a plus.

Qualifications

• Minimum Grade 12 education.
• Minimum one year experience in volume food preparation or catering.
• Event preparation in Hospitality or Retirement Residences industry.
• Must have a valid Safe Food Handling Certificate.
• Smart Serve certificate is an asset.
• Must possess good public relations and communication skills.
• Must be physically able to lift heavy items and stand for long periods.
• Must be legally eligible to work in Canada and able to pass a Vulnerable Sector Check.

Responsibilities

• Set up equipment and supplies for food preparation.
• Prepare food following standardized recipes.
• Assist with prescribed diets under supervision of Cook or Chef.
• Receive and store deliveries per food safety standards.
• Monitor quality and quantity of supplies and report issues.
• Assist with event setup and removal for special functions.
• Complete cleaning tasks as scheduled.

• Setting up equipment and supplies for food preparation
• Preparing food and ingredients following standardized recipes
• Providing for prescribed diets, at appropriate temperatures and in portion controlled quantities under the direct guidance of a Cook or Chef
• Receiving, checking and storing food and supply deliveries in accordance with food safety standards, Health and Safety standards and prescribed practices
• Monitoring quality and quantity of food supplies received and advising the Cook or Chef on duty of problems
• Reporting food, supply, and equipment needs to the Cook or Chef
• Assisting with the delivery, set-up and removal of food for special events, buffets and catered functions
• Completing assigned cleaning tasks according to instructions and cleaning schedules.
• Performing other duties as assigned

What you need to know:

• Minimum Grade 12 education
• Minimum one year experience in volume food preparation, catering and special
• Event preparation in the Hospitality or Retirement Residences industry
• Must have a valid Safe Food Handling Certificate
• Smart Serve Certificate is an asset
• Must possess good public relations and communication skills
• Demonstrates a positive attitude necessary to meet the goals and standards of the residence
• Must be physically able to lift and transfer heavy, hot items and stand for the majority of the shift
• You must be legally eligible to work in Canada or have a valid work/study permit
• You must successfully pass a Vulnerable Sector Check
