Pre-roll Machine / Cigarette Mechanical Engineer

Job Summary As a Pre-roll / Cigarette Mechanical Engineer, you will be responsible for operating and maintaining the machine that produces cannabis pre-rolls. Your tasks will include setting up the machine with the necessary materials, regulating the flow of cannabis, ensuring each pre-roll meets quality standards, troubleshooting any issues, and performing regular maintenance and cleaning. This role requires attention to detail, problem-solving skills, and a commitment to producing high‑quality pre‑rolls. Kindly note that for the right candidate, we are open to a relocation allowance.

Role and Responsibilities
  • Operate and maintain the pre-roll making machine that encases cannabis in continuous paper rolls.
  • Place rolls of rod paper and strain‑specific tipping paper onto the machine.
  • Regulate the flow of milled cannabis to ensure each pre-roll contains the specified amount of flower.
  • Fill glue reservoirs and document components added to the machines.
  • Thread rod paper between guide rolls and adjust friction tension on holding spindles.
  • Start the machine and observe its operation, troubleshooting any issues that arise to maintain production efficiency.
  • Verify that weights are correct and in accordance with standards.
  • Clean paper scraps and waste materials from the machine using a brush and air gun.
  • Place rolls of tipping material on spindles and fill hoppers with filters.
  • Replace full catching trays and perform quality checks to ensure the size, weight, and shape of the pre‑rolls meet quality standards.
  • Diagnose machine problems, respond to fault lamp, and message displays, and adjust machine accordingly.
  • Load materials, clear material jams, and make minor machine adjustments.
  • Perform light machine maintenance.
  • Perform machine and area cleaning as described in work instructions.
  • Perform all quality checks and test as described in work instructions.
  • Order materials, verify materials and production specifications, perform quality checks, monitor and respond to KPI data prompts, set up machine for various product styles, and classify finished product through direct interaction with advanced Manufacturing Execution System and Document Management System, and other computer applications as appropriate.
  • Perform procedures and work assignments in keeping with Company safety rules and all other policies and procedures.
Qualifications and Education Requirements
  • 5-10 years in a high‑speed industrial production environment.
  • Three years of operator experience with high‑speed manufacturing equipment.
  • College diploma / certificate / degree or equivalent.
  • Cigarette maker experience with an OEM involving service, operation, training, trouble shooting and installation is an asset.
  • Tobacco & Cannabis manufacturing experience an asset.
