Main Role
Preoperative

The preoperative nurse is responsible for preparing patients before surgery, both physically and psychologically. They act as an intermediary between the patient and the medical team, ensuring that all conditions are met for safe surgery. Recovery Room Provide immediate post‑anesthetic monitoring and care to patients leaving the operating room, guaranteeing their safety, comfort, and optimal recovery. Responsibilities Preoperative Assess the patient's overall health. Collect medical and surgical history. Review medical records and diagnostic tests. Prepare the patient for surgery (hygiene, medication, fasting, etc.). Inform and reassure the patient. The patient is informed about the procedure. Monitor vital signs and detect any abnormalities. Collaborate with surgeons, anesthesiologists, and other professionals. Manage administrative documents related to the procedure. Liaise with patients' families.

Recovery Room
  • Receive patients in the recovery room after surgery.
  • Monitor vital signs: blood pressure, heart rate, respiration, oxygen saturation.
  • Manage postoperative pain according to protocols (IV, PCA, epidural).
  • Detect and intervene quickly in case of complications (bleeding, respiratory distress, nausea, etc.).
  • Collaborate closely with anesthesiologists and surgeons.
  • Document all observations and interventions in the patient's file.
  • Ensure clear communication with families and the healthcare team.
  • Prepare and maintain monitoring equipment and medical devices.
  • Adhere to hygiene, safety, and quality protocols.
Requirements
  • College Diploma (DEC) in Nursing or equivalent.
  • Member in good standing with the OIIQ (Quebec Order of Nurses).
  • Experience in post‑operative care or intensive care (an asset).
  • Good stress management and ability to react in emergency situations.
  • Interpersonal skills and empathy.
  • Availability to work according to variable schedules (day, evening, night, weekends).
  • Knowledge of medical protocols and monitoring equipment.
