This is a 1-year contract position, full-time hours, based out of our Bishop St office in Cambridge.

What You Will Do:
  • Construct, maintain, and operate both overhead and underground electrical distribution systems.
  • Participate in job planning activities, including completing tailboards, to assess hazards and coordinate tasks.
  • Set up appropriate work area protection in compliance with safety standards.
  • Perform line work using approved methods such as rubber glove techniques and live line tools.
  • Install, maintain, and operate various system components including poles, conductors, guy wires, switches, switchgear, transformers, cables, splices, terminations, and substation components—on the ground, at height, or in confined spaces.
  • Safely operate and maintain motorized vehicles and equipment such as bucket trucks, radial boom derricks, aerial devices, portable generators, power saws, and drills.
  • Conduct pre‑trip inspections of vehicles and equipment to ensure operational readiness and safety compliance.
  • Maintain a professional and courteous demeanor when interacting with customers and the public.
  • Execute switching operations as directed by the Control Room, ensuring full compliance with the Utility Work Protection Code (UWPC).
  • Respond to power outages on a 24/7 basis, including diagnosing issues, performing repairs, and restoring service to customers.
  • Communicate with System Control personnel to report defective equipment and unsafe conditions, and to verify adherence to tag‑out/lock‑out procedures.
  • Participate in standby rotation and respond to emergency callouts as required.
  • Assist in the training and mentorship of Apprentice Powerline Technicians (Journeypersons).
  • Engage in ongoing training and development programs to maintain and enhance technical and safety competencies.
  • Maintain a thorough understanding of, and adhere to, all applicable safety legislation, Electrical Utility Safety Rules (EUSR), and GrandBridge policies, procedures, and safe work practices.
  • Position may be required to work in both service areas.
What You Will Bring:
  • Meet or exceed the requirements of a 2nd Year Powerline Technician Apprentice in terms of hours worked, schooling status, competencies, and skills.
  • Proficient with the construction of overhead and underground electrical distribution systems.
  • Possess strong technical knowledge on the operation of the electrical distribution system, as well as the electrical equipment and mapping that comprises the electrical system.

  • Experienced in the troubleshooting and repair of the electrical distribution system.
  • Proficient in all aspects of loading and operating requirements for digger and aerial device trucks, as well as associated rigging techniques.
  • Working knowledge of the Electrical Utility Safety Rules, Book 7 Traffic Manual, and relevant aspects of the company Health and Safety program to safely work on the electrical distribution system.
  • Strong organizational skills with the ability to prioritize tasks effectively and safely, often working in stressful conditions and high‑pressure situations.
  • Proficient with MS Office and utilization of relevant software programs.
  • A self‑starter with the ability to work effectively in a team environment and follow instructions from supervisors and peers.
  • Strong interpersonal skills with the ability to work with multiple stakeholder groups and a commitment to fostering a positive and inclusive workplace culture.
