Job summary

Ledcor Construction, Inc. is seeking a Journeyman or Apprentice Power Lineman to support the construction and installation of transmission lines and support structures on a major project near Fort McMurray, Alberta.

The role requires working at heights and operating specialized equipment to ensure safe, compliant installations. The ideal candidate will have powerline construction experience or related training, a strong safety mindset, and be capable of mentoring apprentices on site.

Qualifications

  • Journeyman Powerline Technician or registered/aspiring apprentice.
  • Powerline construction experience or relevant technical training.
  • Ability to work at heights, including climbing poles and lattice towers, and working from bucket trucks or lifts.
  • Knowledge of line construction methods, tools, and safety procedures.
  • Valid Class 5 driver’s license (Class 1 or 3 preferred) with clear 3-year driver’s abstract.
  • Physically capable of heavy lifting and working outdoors in all weather conditions.
  • Strong teamwork, communication, and safety focus.

Responsibilities

  • Construct, install, inspect, and maintain transmission lines, overhead and underground distribution power systems.
  • Operate line construction equipment including bucket trucks, digger derricks, backhoes, loaders, track equipment, pullers, and tensioners.
  • Assemble and install lattice towers, steel structures, monopoles, H‑frames, and wood pole systems.
  • Read and interpret construction drawings and work plans.
  • Support material handling, production tracking, and crew coordination.
  • Follow and promote strict OH&S and safety standards.
  • Mentor apprentices and junior crew members as required.
  • Complete pre-employment drug and alcohol testing.

Description

We are seeking a Journeyman or Apprentice Power Lineman to support the construction and installation of lattice towers, steel and wood h-frames, and stringing various conductor sizes on a notable project just outside Fort McMurray, Alberta. This role involves working at heights, operating specialized equipment, and ensuring all electrical and communication systems are completed safely and to industry standards.

The ideal candidate is safety‑driven, physically capable, and experienced in power line construction—or motivated to continue developing their skills in the trade. This is a strong opportunity to contribute to critical infrastructure while building your career on a high‑profile northern Alberta project.

Key Responsibilities

Work Conditions
  • 14 days on (or 21 if requested) , 7 days off, working 11.5 hour days. Overtime rates apply after 8 hours worked per day and 40 hours per week.
