Qualifications

What You Will Do
  • Assist in the construction, maintenance, and repair of overhead and underground electrical distribution systems.
  • Support line crews in installing, testing, and maintaining powerlines, transformers, poles, and related equipment.
  • Follow safety protocols and procedures to ensure a safe working environment.
  • Perform routine inspections and report issues or hazards.
  • Perform and work towards becoming proficient at tasks identified in the Vestibule and Level 1 sections of the MEARIE Trade Skills Logbook.
What You Will Bring
  • Good academic standing in the College’s Powerline Technician program.
  • Registered with the Ministry as an Apprentice Powerline Technician. The Apprentice must bring his/her copy of the Ministry Training Agreement and MEARIE Trade Skills Log Book.
  • Successful completion of the MEARIE Powerline Technician training course, Level 1. The MEARIE instructors should have initialed the trained box beside each Level 1 task.
  • Must be able to perform the duties of the job including manual labour, work in underground vaults and physically able to climb poles and work at heights.
  • Class ‘G’ driver’s license in good standing. Preference will be given to those with a DZ license.
  • Excellent written and verbal communications skills. Must demonstrate an ability to interpret drawings, sketches, and diagrams and to work from verbal and written instructions, specifications and standards.
  • The successful candidate will be required to bring their own personal tools, climbing belt and spurs, orange clothing and safety footwear. The successful candidate may be required to be available for emergency callouts and occasional work on nights and weekends.
