Job description

Huawei Canada has an immediate 12-month contract opening for a Power System Analyst.

About the team:

The Smart Grid Technology Lab focuses on research in real-time simulation technologies, microgrid energy management, control systems, and other smart grid technologies. We apply cutting‑edge technologies to the digital power industry. The lab has developed into a research organization with significant achievements and a strong impact in the industry.

Responsibilities:
  • Develop accurate simulation models of power systems and power electronics (PSCAD, EMTP, Hypersim, OPAL-RT, RSCAD, etc.).
  • Implement and validate simulation models to assess system performance under various scenarios and operating conditions.
  • Perform detailed analysis of power systems electromagnetic transient (EMT) simulation results and provide insights into grid stability, fault response, and dynamic behavior.
  • Collaborate with the research and development team to investigate emerging technologies and assist in preparing technical reports based on simulation findings.
Ideal Candidate:
  • Bachelor’s, Master’s, or PhD degree in Electrical Engineering, Computer Engineering, or a related field with a focus of Real‑Time Simulation.
  • Strong experience in using EMT software (e.g., PSCAD, EMTP, Power Factory), real‑time simulation platforms (e.g., RTDS, OPAL-RT, Typhoon HIL), or other simulation software (e.g., Simulink, PLECS) for power system/power electronics modeling and analysis.
  • Knowledge of power systems and power electronics modeling and analysis, including generation, transmission, and distribution systems.
  • Familiarity with hardware‑in‑the‑loop (HIL) testing and real‑time control systems is an asset.
  • Excellent communication and teamwork abilities.
Additional Information:

Huawei Canada is committed to a fair, inclusive, and accessible recruitment process. If you require accommodation during any stage of the hiring process, please let us know, and we will work with you to meet your needs.

Huawei aims to support a French‑speaking work environment for its employees in Quebec. We have taken steps to avoid requiring a language other than French for this position. However, proficiency in English is essential for this role for the following reasons: The person will be required to communicate regularly with colleagues located outside Quebec, where English is the primary language used for communication between offices. In addition, the nature of the tasks related to this position, which falls within a highly specialized field of artificial intelligence, also requires knowledge of English.
