Job summary

Maple Leaf Foods in London, Ontario is seeking a Refrigeration Operator to support our processing facility. This role features a 12-hour rotating day/night shift, with a 4-week cycle and responsibilities including monitoring steam and ammonia systems, maintaining refrigeration equipment, and upholding food safety standards.

The successful candidate will hold a Refrigeration Operator Class B license (or higher), have ammonia cooling and boiler experience, and be able to work a 24/7 schedule.

Qualifications

• Must hold Refrigeration Operator Class B License or higher.
• 3rd class stationary engineer certificate is preferred.
• Experience with ammonia cooling and compressed air systems.
• Experience with boilers and steam.
• Able to work 24 hours/7 day week.
• Self-directed / motivated team player with urgency and attention to detail.
• Must have a full complement of personal/professional hand tools ID’d for Food Safety program.
• Able to read and write English.
• Able to do heavy lifting (up to 50 lbs).
• Knowledge of TSSA standards.

Responsibilities

• Maintain/Monitor/Log steam generation requirements by operation code.
• Maintain/Monitor refrigeration equipment to TSSA standards.
• Participate in plant equipment repairs/installations.
• Interface with Contractual and Inspection Departments for corrective or legal requirements.
• Process work requests and apply corrective actions using the computerized maintenance system.
• Support the department in meeting targets while maintaining safety and quality.

Job description

The Opportunity:

12-hour rotating shift pattern structure (a variation of the DuPont Shift Schedule). This is a 4-week rotation between day and night shifts

Hourly Rate: $38.50

Snapshot of a Day-in-the-Life:

• Contributes to a healthy work environment, while maintaining high food safety standards
• Maintain/ Monitor/Test/ log all steam generating requirements by operation code
• Maintain/Monitor/Check all refrigeration equipment requirements to TSSA Standards
• Participate in plant equipment repairs/installations
• Interface with necessary Contractual and Inspection Departments for corrective and or legal requirements
• Carry out oral/ printed work requests and apply corrective measures in a timely fashion utilizing computerized maintenance system
• Other responsibilities as required
• Directly helps the department to meet targets and goals while maintaining a healthy and safe work environment
• Addresses issues with a sense of urgency and attention to detail
• Fulfills all Health & Safety, Food Safety, HACCP, WHMIS and MSDS requirements
• Maintains productivity that meets/exceeds standards
• Contributes to the team and the whole facility in a positive way

What You’ll Bring:

• Must hold a Refrigeration Operator Class B License or higher
• 3rd class stationary engineer certificate is preferred.
• Must have experience working with ammonia cooling and compressed air systems
• Must have experience working with boilers and steam
• Able to work shifts on 24 hours/ 7-day week
• Self-directed / motivated team player open to new technology with a sense of urgency and attention to detail
• Must have a full complement of personal/professional hand tools ID’d for Food Safety program
• Able to communicate with co-workers, Supervisors and lead hands
• Able to read and write English
• Able to do heavy lifting regularly (up to 50 lbs)
• Must be cooperative, reliable, responsible and punctual
• Must have knowledge of Technical Standards and Safety Authority (TSSA) standards
