Fraser Health's Burnaby Hospital is seeking a Porter to join our collegial team as we support the redevelopment of Burnaby Hospital into a modern health-care campus. You will move patients, documents, specimens, and equipment between units, helping ensure smooth operations during a multi‑phase project opening in 2025 and beyond.

Responsibilities

• Transport patients and documents/equipment using beds, stretchers, wheelchairs.
• Assist in lifting/transferring patients.
• Respond to patients' requests during transport.
• Escort patients to discharge area and assist to vehicle.
• Complete Porter Service request forms and respond to calls.
• Provide messenger services to nursing units.
• Transfer bodies to Morgue and handle paperwork.
• Transport clean/soiled supplies as required.
• Perform other related duties as assigned.

The Burnaby Hospital redevelopment project is a multi-phase project that will transform the hospital into a modernized medical and surgical health care campus. Phase one is slated to open in spring 2025 and phase two in 2030.

Detailed Overview

Under the general supervision of the Manager Health Services, transports patients, bodies, and materials such as supplies, equipment and pharmaceuticals between hospital areas.

Responsibilities

1. Transports patients and accompanying documents and/or equipment such as IV poles,utilizing mechanical aids such as beds, stretchers, and wheelchairs.
2. Assists in lifting and transferring of patients to and from beds, stretchers, and wheelchairs.
3. Responds to patients' requests during transport.
4. Accompanies patients to the discharge area and assists/helps them into the vehicle as required.
5. Completes Porter Service request forms andresponds to telephone and paging systems for requests for transportation of patients, stat specimens, and related equipment.
6. Provides messenger services to nursing units such ascharts, z-ray films, specimens, pharmacy, as required.
7. Transfers bodies to Morgue and registers/records necessary paper work.
8. Transports clean supplies and materials to all areas of the facility and collects soiled supplies and equipment as required.
9. Performs other related duties as assigned.

Qualifications

Education and Experience

Grade 10 plus one year recent related experience or an equivalent combination of education, training, and experience.
