The City of Iqaluit is looking for a temporary Pool and Facility Operator to join our Recreation team.

Job Overview

Title: Pool and Facility Operator
Department: Recreation
Status: Full‑time temporary position (January 5 – May 1 2026)
Salary: $38.74 per hour, 35 hour/week
Union: unionized
Closing Date: open until filled

Key Responsibilities
  • Oversee building and equipment to maintain a physically safe environment.
  • Operate public pool facilities and perform routine pump maintenance.
  • Use janitorial systems and equipment (floor cleaning machines, etc.).
  • Plan, document, and implement short‑ and long‑term maintenance plans for complex facilities.
  • Operate mechanical systems and building controls (HVAC, boiler, fire alarm, sprinkler, pool equipment).
Minimum Qualifications
  • Diploma or certificate in Mechanical Systems (2 years) or related field.
  • Pool Operator 1 & 2 Course completed.
  • Standard First Aid and CPR (c).
  • Pass a swim test as required by the Aquatics Coordinator.
  • Class 5 Nunavut Driver’s License.
  • WHIMS certification.
  • Four to five years of experience with mechanical systems operations and facility maintenance (building systems and related equipment).
  • Experience operating public pool facilities and pump maintenance.
  • Experience using janitorial systems and equipment.
  • Knowledge of building systems (HVAC, boiler, fire alarm, sprinkler, pool equipment, building control systems).
  • Ability to communicate in Inuktitut and/or French (preferred).
  • Security clearance: clear Criminal and Vulnerable Sectors Record Check required.
Assets
  • Previous experience as a commercial HVAC Service Technician.
  • Experience working as a commercial HVAC Service Technician (asset).
