Job summary

Barnhart is seeking a Trailer Operator in Calgary to operate conventional and hydraulic trailers, read transport plans, and move heavy loads safely across North America.

You will perform pre-operational inspections, secure loads within load limits, and communicate with team members and customers on projects. This full-time role offers competitive pay, benefits after probation, and opportunities to work with leading heavy-haul equipment.

Qualifications

• Valid Class 5 driver's license with a clean driving record.
• 1–3 years of experience operating trailers or hydraulic platform trailers.
• Strong commitment to safe equipment operation.
• Able to maintain concentration in demanding environments.
• Effective communication and interpersonal skills.
• Mechanical aptitude for minor equipment repairs.

Responsibilities

• Read and follow transport plans to safely and effectively execute moves.
• Assemble, configure, and prepare heavy haul and hydraulic trailer systems for transport operations.
• Perform pre-operational inspections and regular equipment checks for safety and compliance.
• Verify loads are properly secured and within load limits during transport.
• Operate conventional and hydraulic platform trailers on simple and complex projects.
• Pilot over-dimensional loads when required.
• Participate in toolbox talks and daily safety meetings.
• Maintain high awareness while operating equipment in dynamic environments.
• Communicate effectively with team members, customers, and project personnel.
• Perform minor mechanical repairs and troubleshooting as needed.
• Support additional transportation and project-related activities as assigned.

What You’ll Do

This role combines transportation operations, equipment expertise, logistics execution, and teamwork, making it ideal for someone who wants to be directly involved in moving critical loads from start to finish. In this role, you will:

What You Bring

Required:

• Valid Class 5 driver's license with a clean driving abstract.
• 1-3 years of experience operating trailers and/or hydraulic platform trailers.
• Strong commitment to safe equipment operation and transportation practices.
• Ability to remain alert and maintain a high level of concentration in demanding environments.
• Effective communication and interpersonal skills.
• Good judgment and the ability to react appropriately in emergency situations.
• Mechanical aptitude and ability to perform minor equipment repairs.
• Time management and organizational skills.

Preferred:

• Previous heavy haul or specialized transportation experience.
• Supervisory or crew leadership experience.
• CSTS 2020 certification.
• WHMIS 2015 certification.
• CSO certification.
• H2S Alive certification.
• First Aid certification.
