Summary
The Plant Manager will manage the day-to-day business and operations of 3 material business units: Asphalt Plants in Acheson and Leduc, Soil Cement Plant in Edmonton, and Ready‑Mix Plant in Acheson. This position reports to the Manufacturing Manager and is the liaison between customers, employees, and the company.
Role Purpose
The Plant Manager oversees the operations of manufacturing plants producing Asphalt, Soil Cement, and Concrete. The role includes leading a team to ensure quality and safety standards, coordinating with departments to meet production targets, and optimizing plant performance.
Key Responsibilities
- Health, Safety & Environment: Drive safety performance across Business Units by managing the HSE Program and ensuring compliance with all health, safety, and environmental policies.
- Collaborate with leadership and project teams to foster a culture of accountability, continuously improve safety practices, and lead by example.
- Plant Operations Management: Support continuous production to meet business objectives by developing and overseeing production and maintenance strategies, delivering KPIs, and ensuring efficient resource management.
- Manage daily operations including quality control, inventory, and cross‑functional coordination.
- Maintenance Management: Coordinate with Business Unit Superintendents to plan and execute preventive, predictive, and proactive maintenance, develop maintenance schedules, manage major repairs, and conduct regular inspections.
- Lead team supervision by upholding Colas & SGE values, communicating clearly, guiding workforce planning, fostering union relations, and promoting an empowered work environment.
- Drive employee development and coaching through talent management, succession planning, skill gap assessment, training, and transparent communication of goals.
- Financial & Risk Management: Support cost control and business planning by monitoring financial metrics, budgeting, forecasting, and ensuring effective cost control.
- Maintain business development and customer relations management by engaging the Sales team for bid opportunities, supporting new business pursuits, and collaborating across departments for smooth delivery of products and services.
Profile
- Must have extensive industry experience in a supervisory position or an equivalent combination of technical education and industry experience.
- Must have technical knowledge of asphalt and concrete equipment and processes.
- Strong computer skills including knowledge of Command Alkon, MINDS software, MS Office, and JDE.
- Experience operating and maintaining Asphalt Plants and Ready‑Mix equipment.
- Strong written and oral communication skills.
- Ability to work independently and effectively manage responsibilities.
