Job description

CPA Ontario is not like other organizations

We operate at a rare intersection, both regulator and membership body, responsible for upholding the integrity of the CPA designation while supporting more than 105,000 members and 19,000 students across the province. Our work sits between business and the public interest, between the evolving demands of industry and the standards that make trust possible.

Careers built here tend to look different because the work itself is different. You are not simply contributing to an organization. You are helping shape a profession that touches nearly every sector of the economy at a moment when expectations, technology, and the nature of work are all being rewritten.

About This Opportunity

The Planning & Analysis Officer plays an integral role in supporting the Professional Development team by providing financial and operational insights that help drive strategic priorities, business performance, and informed decision-making.

In this role, you will work closely with leaders and cross-functional partners to deliver meaningful analysis, support planning activities, and identify opportunities for growth and continuous improvement. You will contribute to budgeting and forecasting, performance reporting, dashboard and financial model development, and pricing and profitability analysis for learning products. This role also supports audience development initiatives, including B2B growth and loyalty strategies, helping to drive sustainable success across the business.

What You’ll Be Doing
  • Act as a trusted advisor and analytics partner to the Professional Development team by providing data-driven insights that support strategic, financial, and operational goals. Contribute to ad hoc analysis, multi-year trend reporting, and data-focused projects that help the team make informed decisions and achieve business objectives.
  • Develop, maintain, and enhance dashboards, reports, and financial models that provide visibility into business performance, emerging trends, and opportunities for growth. Work collaboratively with the Business Intelligence team to ensure reporting is meaningful, accessible, and actionable.
  • Lead the annual budgeting and forecasting process for the Professional Development team, including developing assumptions, conducting trend analysis, preparing supporting documentation, and creating presentation materials. Partner with the VP, Professional Development, to review forecasts, present recommendations to senior leaders, and address questions from Finance stakeholders.
  • Conduct regular pricing and profitability analysis across Professional Development products to support strategic pricing decisions and market competitiveness. Develop pricing recommendations for new learning solutions, including customized organizational learning packages, and perform break-even analyses that support sustainable business growth. Monitor and evaluate instructor cost structures to identify opportunities for optimization.
  • Partner with the Professional Development leadership team to complete month-end, quarter-end, and year-end variance analysis. Review monthly accruals prepared by the Operations team, provide insights and recommendations, and collaborate with Finance partners through monthly reporting and review processes.
To Be Successful You’ll Need
  • CPA designation with a minimum of two years of post-certification experience.
  • Three or more years of experience in a financial analyst role supporting a business unit.
  • Experience with variance analysis, budgeting and forecasting processes, and financial modelling.
  • Advanced Excel skills, and experience using business intelligence and analytics tools to interpret data and translate findings into clear, actionable insights.
  • Strong analytical and problem-solving abilities, combined with sound business judgment.
  • The ability to communicate complex information clearly and build understanding among diverse audiences.
  • Adaptability and comfort working in a dynamic and evolving environment.
  • A collaborative approach, with demonstrated success building strong relationships and partnering effectively across teams, functions, and organizational levels.
  • A continuous improvement mindset, with a desire to learn, contribute, and help teams achieve shared goals.
Why Join CPA Ontario?
  • We support your well-being through industry-leading benefits, mental health resources, savings programs, and a sustainable approach to how work gets done.
  • We are committed to inclusion as a core part of how we operate, not as an afterthought.
  • We have a hybrid working environment, with three days a week on-site, complemented by 2 days of remote working. We are intentional about that: the work we do benefits from being together. We want those days you work from home to be comfortable and offer a one-time bonus towards a home office when you start.
  • We invest in your growth through learning and professional development opportunities, stretch projects, secondments, and genuine paths for career progression.
  • We move quickly. The pace reflects the profession we serve; it can be demanding, but the work matters, and the team around you is invested in the same outcomes you have.
Salary range

The starting salary range for this position is between $103,700 - 129,600 per annum. Salary offered will be based on your qualifications, experience, and internal parity. Exceptions may be considered with further review.
