Job summary

Government of Newfoundland and Labrador seeks a Land Use Planner to review regional and municipal planning documents, coordinate provincial interests, and develop provincial land use policy statements within a municipal planning context.

The role involves interpreting planning laws, assessing referrals, preparing technical reports, and delivering training to councils and staff on plan implementation. Occasional travel may be required.

Qualifications

• Completion of degree in Land Use Planning (equivalencies will be considered).
• Eligible MCIP membership.
• Experience in urban and rural planning.

Responsibilities

Reporting to the Manager of Land Use Planning, this position will be responsible for reviewing Regional and Municipal planning documents to ensure consistency with provincial policy and law; coordinating provincial interests; researching and writing provincial land use policy statements; responding to requests regarding municipal planning areas; preparing technical reports; and researching current planning topics. In addition, the incumbent is responsible for responding to requests for interpretation of planning law, land use policy, government policy, as well as municipal plans and development regulations. Reviews and make recommendations on land use referrals from other departments. This position also provides training to councils and staff on municipal plan implementation along with other related duties as required.

Screening Criteria

• Completion of degree in Land Use Planning (equivalencies will be considered)
• Eligible Member in the Canadian Institute of Planners (MCIP)
• Experience in urban and rural planning
