Piping Designer

Are you looking for a new role to further your career and learn from an excellent management team? Our busy client is expanding their team to include a Piping Designer.

The Piping Designer is responsible for developing clear, accurate, and detailed shop fabrication drawings for piping systems and mechanical equipment. This role ensures all designs meet customer specifications, comply with applicable industry codes and standards, and adhere to good manufacturing and fabrication practices.

Responsibilities

Create detailed 3-D Computer-Aided Design (CAD) models and drawings for piping, mechanical, and structural assemblies, including general arrangements, assembly views, and individual component details.

Generate accurate material take-offs (MTOs), spool drawings, and related fabrication data directly from the 3D model.

Prepare and maintain project drawing files, records, and design control documentation in accordance with established engineering and project work instructions.

Review and check drawings for dimensional accuracy, completeness, and adherence to design specifications and relevant codes.

Define and uphold in-house drafting and modeling best practices and standards to ensure consistency and quality across all projects.

Collaborate with engineering, project management, and fabrication teams to ensure designs are constructible and aligned with project schedules.

Interact professionally with customers on technical and design matters as required to clarify requirements or resolve issues.

Act as a professional representative of the company and contribute to a positive and collaborative working environment.

Qualifications

3–5 years of progressive experience in design and drafting, specifically within the piping or mechanical discipline.

Proficiency with 3D CAD software, with specific expert-level experience in Autodesk Inventor strongly preferred.

Familiarity with the design of pressure equipment and a working knowledge of relevant industry codes and standards (e.g., ASME B31.3 and B31.4 for process piping; CSA B51, S16; API 5L; ASME B16.5, B16.47, B16.9).

Solid understanding of fabrication processes, including welding, machining, fitting, and construction sequencing.

Experience working on projects within the Oil and Gas or Oilsands sector is considered a valuable asset.

Exceptional attention to detail and a commitment to producing high‑quality, error‑free documentation.

Proven ability to prioritize tasks, manage a heavy workload efficiently, and consistently meet tight project deadlines.

Highly effective organizational and communication skills, with the ability to work independently or seamlessly as part of a multidisciplinary team.

A resourceful problem‑solver who can navigate complexity in a fast‑paced, project‑driven environment.
