Job summary

TC Energy is seeking an experienced Pipeline Technician for the Woodbridge, ON area to operate, maintain, test and inspect natural gas pipelines and related equipment. You will report to the Pipeline Manager and oversee maintenance programs and damage prevention activities while supporting transfer compressor operations.

The role requires a self-starter with strong troubleshooting and communication skills, 5 years of pipeline experience, and a valid driver’s license.

Qualifications

  • Journeyman certification or equivalent post-secondary training.
  • Minimum 5 years of experience in pipelines and related systems.
  • Proven mechanical knowledge and safe work record.

Responsibilities

  • Inspect, troubleshoot, and repair actuators, valves, and related components.
  • Plan isolation, blowdowns, and gas-handling activities including installation and operation of air movers/expellers.
  • Conduct pipeline purging, loading and bleed ins to pressurize pipelines and return to service.
  • Provide support to transfer compressor operation and on-call emergencies.
  • Perform One Call line locates and gas leak surveys.
  • Enter data into SAP, close work orders and create notifications.

The Opportunity

Our Northern Ontario Mainline / TQM Operations group is seeking an experienced Pipeline Technician to join our team, based in Woodbridge, ON. Pipeline Technicians operate, maintain, test, and inspect our natural gas pipeline, valves & operators and associated pipeline building assemblies in a manner which meets operational needs in compliance with company and regulatory requirements.

Reporting to the Pipeline Manager, Northern Ontario, this position will provide oversight for and execute our organization's pipeline operations and maintenance program, damage prevention program as well as provide support to the transfer compressor operation. This individual must be a self-starter, capable of working with minimal supervision, who possesses excellent troubleshooting, problem solving and communication skills.

The role is overtime eligible and will be part of an on-call rotating schedule in which you will be subject to call-out for emergency response. The regular work schedule will be: Week 1: Monday to Thursday 9 hours / day; Friday is an 8-hour day Week 2: Monday to Thursday 9 hours / day; Friday is a Regular Day Off (RDO)

What you'll do
  • Perform inspections, troubleshooting and repair on equipment such as actuators, valves, stem seals, and other related components
  • Plan and lead pipeline isolation, blowdowns and other gas handling activities including installation and operation of air movers/expellers
  • Conduct pipeline purging, loading and bleed ins to pressurize pipelines, and complete return to service activities
  • Provide support as necessary to the operation of transfer compressor for pipeline pull downs
  • Perform One Call line locates
  • Perform gas leak surveys as reported by aerial patrols
  • Perform and assist with various tasks associated with in-line inspection programs
  • Complete preventative and corrective maintenance PMs/CMs as required and close out work orders.
  • Complete work orders, enter data into job plans, create new notifications, etc. in SAP
  • Operate and maintain natural gas pipelines and associated equipment
  • Read and interpret alignment sheets
  • Lead/manage the safe and efficient completion of low complexity projects to include the coordination and monitoring of contractor work activities or third-party active control
  • Provide coaching, mentoring and training to other personnel
  • Assist with all types of line crossings (foreign or seismic) of TC Energy pipeline assets
  • Complete basic "as built" prints and update related documentation with respect to One Call and pipeline related schematics
  • Identify encroachment issues, report and manage unauthorized activities
  • Communicate and provide damage prevention education to contractors, the general public, landowners, and government agencies relative to gas operations
  • Assist with general pipeline right-of-way (ROW) maintenance activities such as erosion or sink hole repairs, line patrols, and installation of identification signs and posts
  • Complete LDAR repairs, planned and corrective maintenance as required
  • Provide on call support to the region
  • Perform tasks from other disciplines
Minimum Qualifications
  • Journeyman certification in a trade (i.e., Millwright, HD Mechanic) or two years of post-secondary training in a related field
  • 5 years relevant work experience related to Pipelines
  • Proven Mechanical knowledge, skills and experience
  • Excellent work safety record and a safe work attitude
Preferred Qualifications
  • Experience with valve operation, inspection, maintenance and repair
  • Experience operating and maintaining high pressure natural gas pipelines and/or facilities
  • Computerized Maintenance Management System (CMMS) and/or SAP experience
This position requires candidates to:
  • Have and maintain a valid driver's license and provide a driver's abstract (record) for review
  • Successfully complete a pre-employment medical screening, including drug and alcohol testing
  • Travel to other company locations for temporary assignments, meetings or training will be required (estimated up 50% of work schedule)
  • Be part of an on-call rotation and provide emergency support as required
  • Be subject to working conditions which include adverse weather and temperatures
