Job Overview
Join our team as a Pipelayer and be a key player in building essential infrastructure! In this hands-on role, you’ll install and maintain sewer, storm drain, and utility lines, using the latest equipment and techniques. We’re looking for a motivated individual who thrives in an outdoor environment and has a sharp eye for quality and safety. If you’re ready to take on challenging projects and make a real impact, we want you on our team!

Job Responsibilities

  1. Lay out, assemble, install, and maintain underground utility pipelines according to blueprints, specifications, and safety codes.
  2. Dig trenches and excavate areas using hand tools, machinery, and equipment to prepare for pipe installation.
  3. Conduct pressure tests and inspections to ensure the integrity and quality of installed pipelines.
  4. Cut pipes to required lengths.
  5. Check slopes for conformance to requirements, using levels or lasers.
  6. Dig trenches to desired or required depths by hand or using trenching tools.
  7. Carry out site foreman’s directives safely throughout daily operations.
  8. Install various sizes and materials of the pipe.
  9. Work safely in deep trenches.
  10. Ability to safely work around excavation equipment including excavators, loaders, packers, etc.
  11. Ensure compliance with Alberta OH&S guidelines and Whissell safety policies and procedures.
  12. Perform other duties as required.

Qualifications

  1. Minimum of 3-5 years working as a Pipelayer helper in the Deep Underground Utility Installation industry.
  2. Thorough knowledge of pipe lasers and transit use (leveled, grade, proper working order).
  3. Ability to read blueprints and city specifications is required.
  4. Ability to read and understand Locates is required.
  5. Ability to dig trenches manually or with machinery as required.
  6. Familiarity with bucket operation techniques is advantageous.
  7. Strong commitment to safety practices in all aspects of work.
