Job summary

Remote People Ltd. on behalf of a well-established Toronto personal injury firm seeks an associate to join its litigation team. This role is ideal for a lawyer with PI experience who is ready to take on more ownership of files, increased client contact, and additional courtroom time.

You will work with senior litigators on a varied caseload, receive mentoring, and have room to grow into more complex, high-value matters over time, with opportunities to influence strategy and negotiate settlements.

Qualifications

• 2–5 years of hands-on personal injury litigation experience (plaintiff or defence).
• Strong advocacy and negotiation skills.
• Integral client service and case strategy development.

Responsibilities

• Running your own caseload of personal injury files from intake to resolution.
• Evaluating new claims and shaping litigation strategy with clients.
• Preparing pleadings, motions, affidavits, mediation memos, settlement offers, and client correspondence.
• Representing clients at discoveries, mediations, pre-trials, and settlement meetings.
• Appearing in court as matters require.
• Handling negotiations with insurers and opposing counsel.
• Partnering with senior counsel on larger, more complex files.
• Keeping clients informed at every stage of their case.
• Digging into medical, financial, and employment records to build liability and damages positions.
• Liaising with medical experts and other professionals as files demand.
• Staying on top of deadlines, procedural rules, and limitation periods.
