Job summary

Group23 Sports Medicine is seeking a Physiotherapy Lead in Calgary to manage a clinical caseload while guiding the Physiotherapy team across multiple locations. This working leadership role blends clinical care with operational and people leadership.

You will collaborate with other leads, support recruitment and mentorship, and drive program development, quality assurance, and service standards within a dynamic sports-medicine environment.

Qualifications

  • Master's degree in Physiotherapy from an accredited university.
  • Licensed Physiotherapist currently registered in Alberta.
  • Minimum of 3–5 years of clinical Physiotherapy experience.
  • Demonstrated leadership, coaching, and people-management abilities.
  • Experience in musculoskeletal and sports medicine care and in a multidisciplinary team.

Responsibilities

  • Maintain an active clinical caseload while providing leadership to the Physiotherapy team.
  • Oversee recruitment, onboarding, mentorship, scheduling, and performance coaching.
  • Support quality assurance, clinical practice oversight, and departmental initiatives.
  • Coordinate with other leads and MDs to improve patient flow and outcomes.
  • Support program development, service standards, and continuous improvement initiatives.

Position Summary

The Physiotherapy Lead is responsible for supporting the coordination, quality, and continuous improvement of Physiotherapy services within Group23. The role provides day-to-day clinical, operational, and people leadership to the Physiotherapy team, ensuring alignment of patient care, professional practice standards, department operations, and program implementation.

The Physiotherapy Lead works collaboratively with other Physiotherapy Lead(s), the Physiotherapy Aide Lead, and the Multi-Disciplinary Manager to support Physiotherapy services across Group23 locations. Responsibilities may be allocated and prioritized among leadership team members in response to operational needs, individual strengths, and organizational priorities.

The Physiotherapy Lead is a working leadership role that maintains an active clinical caseload while supporting recruitment, onboarding, mentorship, scheduling, quality assurance, professional practice oversight, operational excellence, and the implementation of departmental initiatives.

Physiotherapy Program Vision & Direction

Support the development of Physiotherapy programs, service standards, best practices, and departmental goals.

Identify opportunities to improve patient outcomes, service delivery, and operational effectiveness.

Evaluate emerging evidence, clinical practices, and patient care opportunities to support program excellence.

Collaborate with leadership to advance the growth and continuous improvement of Physiotherapy services across Group23.

Coach, mentor, and support Physiotherapist employees and contractors.

Participate in recruitment, onboarding, and professional development for Physiotherapists, students, and volunteers.

Support clinician performance through scheduled reviews, regular coaching, and timely development conversations.

Foster a positive, respectful, and collaborative culture aligned with Group23's purpose and core values.

Maintain professional and technical knowledge through ongoing education and relevant learning opportunities.

Clinical Quality & Professional Practice

Maintain an active clinical caseload and deliver evidence-informed, patient-centered Physiotherapy care.

Promote adherence to professional practice standards, regulatory requirements, and organizational policies.

Support quality assurance through chart audits, documentation reviews, and identification of improvement opportunities.

Champion evidence-informed practice, patient safety, and continuous clinical improvement across Physiotherapy services.

Operations & Resource Management

Support scheduling, vacation approvals, coverage planning, staffing coordination, and day-to-day department operations.

Identify workflow, operational, equipment, space, and resource challenges and support resolution efforts.

Assist with resource planning, equipment and supply recommendations, and operational decision-making.

Support departmental reporting, forecasting, utilization analysis, and accurate clinical documentation and data integrity.

Support implementation of approved Physiotherapy programs, services, initiatives, systems, and workflows.

Lead and support change initiatives that improve patient experience, service delivery, and operational effectiveness.

Collaborate with physicians, operations teams, and other disciplines to improve patient flow, communication, and outcomes.

Monitor implementation outcomes and provide recommendations that support accountability and continuous improvement.

Knowledge:

Knowledge of Group23's purpose, mission, values, concept of care philosophy, and services.

Understanding of privacy, Occupational Health & Safety, Infection Prevention & Control, Employment Standards, and Human Rights requirements.

Strong knowledge of anatomy, musculoskeletal conditions, Physiotherapy assessment, treatment planning, and evidence-informed practice.

Understanding of clinical documentation and professional practice standards.

Skills:

Exceptional verbal, written, interpersonal, and relationship-building skills.

Strong clinical assessment and treatment capabilities.

Clinical leadership, coaching, mentorship, team-building, and interpersonal mediation skills.

Emotional intelligence, analytical thinking, decision-making, problem-solving, and conflict resolution skills.

Proficiency with electronic medical records, Netcare, clinic technology, SharePoint, Teams, Outlook, Word, and Excel.

Abilities:

Ability to balance leadership and coordination responsibilities with an active clinical caseload.

Ability to manage competing priorities with minimal supervision in a fast-paced healthcare environment.

Ability to foster a positive, professional, and collaborative team culture.

Ability to maintain professionalism, empathy, ethical judgment, confidentiality, and engage in crucial conversations.

Commitment to multidisciplinary teamwork, continuous learning, and clinical excellence.

Qualifications

Master's degree in Physiotherapy, or equivalent, from an accredited university program (Canadian equivalent).

Licensed Physiotherapist currently registered and in good standing in Alberta.

Minimum of 3-5 years of experience working as a Physiotherapist in a clinical setting.

Demonstrated ability to lead, support, and influence peers in a clinical environment.

Clinical experience treating musculoskeletal and sports medicine patients preferred.

Experience working as part of a multidisciplinary clinical team.

Related leadership experience, leadership training, coaching, people management, business training, scheduling, program coordination, or workflow optimization is considered an asset.
