Job summary

IWK Health is seeking a pediatric physiotherapist to manage ambulatory referrals within the orthopaedic service. The role involves assessment, treatment and follow-up, working with a multidisciplinary team to provide family-centered care for children.

You will educate families and staff, and participate in weekend standby and on-call coverage as needed. The successful candidate will be a graduate of a Canadian-credentialed physiotherapy program, licensed in Nova Scotia, with at least two years

Qualifications

• Graduate of Canadian-Accredited Physiotherapy program or recognized equivalent.
• Licensed member in good standing of the Nova Scotia Regulator of Physiotherapy.
• Minimum two years of clinical experience; pediatric orthopaedic experience preferred.
• CRP Level C Healthcare Provider within the last 12 months required.
• Demonstrated communication and leadership skills; team collaboration expected.
• Bilingual abilities (French/Arabic) are assets.

Responsibilities

• Assess and treat pediatric referrals in orthopaedic services.
• Provide intervention and follow-up as indicated in a direct and consultative role.
• Collaborate with interprofessional team to optimize patient care.

The Opportunity

Reporting to the Manager, Ambulatory Surgical Care, the Physiotherapist is responsible for the physiotherapy management of pediatric referrals for the orthopaedic service. The caseload primarily consists of ambulatory referrals from the Orthopedic Clinic as well providing primary services to referrals from external sources to the Orthopedic Service. The Physiotherapist provides assessment, intervention, and follow-up (as indicated) on a direct, consultative and monitoring basis. The Physiotherapist works in collaboration with the interprofessional team to provide optimal care to patient and families. The Physiotherapist works in collaboration with the Physiotherapy Professional Practice Leader. The Physiotherapist participates in the education of patients/families, Health Centre staff, and students, as well as in care team and discipline meetings. As a member of the Physiotherapy Service, the Physiotherapist shares responsibility with all IWK Physiotherapists to provide caseload coverage throughout the Health Centre, as well weekend standby and call back coverage on a rotational basis.

Hours of Work

Monday-Friday 7.5 hours/shift, as well as weekend standby and call back coverage on a rotational basis.

Your Qualifications

• Graduate of Canadian-Accredited Physiotherapy program or recognized equivalent required
• Licensed member (in good standing) of the Nova Scotia Regulator of Physiotherapy required.
• Minimum two (2) years of clinical experience is required; pediatric orthopaedic experience is preferred.
• Current successful completion of CRP Level C Healthcare Provider within the last 12 months required.
• Demonstrated excellent interpersonal, communication (verbal and written), and leadership skills required.
• Demonstrated ability to work as part of a collaborative, interdisciplinary team in a variety of settings as well as the ability to work independently required.
• Demonstrated excellent time management, organization and problem-solving skills required.
• Demonstrated understanding and commitment to Family Centered Care required.
• Certification in post graduate competencies (Orthopaedics-related) asset.
• Demonstrated knowledge of best practices in assessment and intervention for pediatric orthopedic physiotherapy required.
• Demonstrated excellence in clinical care: commitment to evidence -based practice.
• Recent Clinical experience in cardio-respiratory physiotherapy practice preferred
• Competencies in other languages an asset; French and Arabic preferred.
