Your Opportunity:

Located just a few short minutes north of Edmonton, the 167-bed Sturgeon Community Hospital (SCH) serves the community of St Albert and the surrounding area. The Physiotherapist II coordinates the day-to-day operations of the team within Rehabilitation Services Teams (Physiotherapy and Occupational Therapy) including staff scheduling, equipment, and supplies. The PT II provides clinical direction to a team of PTs, Ots, TAs, and administrative support. As a member of the department leadership team, the position participates in program planning, implementation and evaluation, resource allocation, daily staff unit assignments, mentoring/coaching of staff and students, orientation, and coordination of student placements. Through role modeling and participation, the Physiotherapist II facilitates conflict resolution, positive change, and ongoing team building. The PT II encourages innovation and creativity; guides analysis and recommends plans to trial/implement same. Supports critical review of literature and emerging knowledge and reflective practice. The incumbent carries a reduced Physiotherapy caseload and provides patient care within an inter-disciplinary team in an assigned area. Coverage is provided on a rotational basis through all inpatient areas including ICU/CCU, Medicine, Orthopedic/General Surgery, and the ER.

Description:

As a Physiotherapist II, you will provide coordination of physiotherapy and other allied health clinical services. You will provide supervision of students and team members as assigned. You will work both independently and as part of an interdisciplinary team providing leadership to other healthcare professionals. You will be making day-to-day clinical decisions on patient/family needs regarding assessment, intervention, discharge and follow-up. You will make decisions and advise team members on complex clinical cases and provide clinical leadership within the program or service area to ensure safe, efficient and effective client care. You will ensure physiotherapy practice is evidence based and in alignment with Alberta legislation and regulations, professional standards of practice, code of ethics and AHS policy and guidelines. You will be coordinating the day-to-day operations of an assigned service area and monitoring care delivery, identifying service needs and assisting other medical staff with caseload management, completing chart audits and providing follow-up and feedback to staff. You will participate in program development and operational planning and representing the department on committees or programs. You will make decisions on staffing level requirements, workflow, caseload priorities in collaboration with managers and other healthcare providers. AHS is dedicated to supporting our Physiotherapists in their practice area and expanding their skillsets regardless of location. All AHS Physiotherapists have access to a list of experienced clinicians across the province and are able to tap into this resource via email, phone and virtual meetings. As we transition to our Provincial Electronic Medical Record (Connect Care) you will also be able to share patient information real time with these senior clinicians to assist you in providing high quality care.

Required Qualifications:

• Master's degree in Physiotherapy from an accredited university program or bachelor's degree in Physiotherapy from an accredited university program and related experience.
• Active or eligible registration and practice permit with the College of Physiotherapists of Alberta.

Additional Required Qualifications:

• A minimum of 2 years’ Acute Care experience working as a Physiotherapist in the last 5 years required.
• Minimum of 2 years of proven leadership experience within the last 4 years and recent attendance at leadership courses/workshops/education.
• Candidates with other relevant clinical/leadership experience may be considered.
• Demonstrated excellent interpersonal, conflict management and communication skills (written and verbal) are required.
• Heart and Stroke BCLS-HCP CPR certification and It’s your Move training required.
• Effective time management and prioritization skills are required.
• Must be able to work independently and within a team environment.
• Ability to problem solve and demonstrate critical thinking skills is required.
• Work tasks and charting is computer based so there are extensive repetitive motion tasks.
• Must be able to tolerate long periods of sitting or standing as well as repetitive movements.
• Must be able to participate in hands on care of patients (i.e., transfers, bariatric clients, bending, reaching, twisting, and walking distances).
• Must be able to lift and carry 10-15 kg regularly if needed.
• Up to date N95 mask fit testing.

Preferred Qualifications:

• 5 years clinical experience as a Physiotherapist working in acute care preferred.
• 3 years of leadership experience preferred.
• Experience with Alpha Fim preferred.
• AADL Authorizer preferred.
• Education completed within Vestibular, MSK and C-spine.
• Knowledge and ability to use computer applications such as Microsoft Office, Excel, and Outlook preferred.
• Experience with Connect Care preferred.
• Experience working within the ICU and ER preferred.
