Your Opportunity

As a Physiotherapist I, you assess patients (clients, resident), develop and administer/oversee exercise plans patient-tailored to improve the physical and psychological well-being of patients with COPD. You will be responsible to educate patients and their families on the role of physical activity to improve symptoms related to COPD. You will collaborate with other professionals to enhance clinical outcomes.

Description

As the Physiotherapist I (PT), you will provide therapeutic interventions to enable clients to achieve optimum physical function and independence in development, disease, disability, chronic conditions, illness and functional decline. You will provide intervention (i.e. prevention, triage, screening, assessment, diagnosis, goal setting, treatment, management, education, consultation, fostering resourcefulness, case management, referral and transition support to individuals, groups, populations and communities. You will include clients and families as integral members of the health care team, encouraging their active participation in all aspects of care. The PT collaborates with patient(s) and families in determining, implementing and evaluating appropriate rehabilitation strategies. You will participate in a variety of interprofessional teams to build awareness, enrich supports and engage in quality improvement; partnering with healthcare providers, patients, families and other stakeholders to advance services for their clients. You will contribute to quality improvement and their professional community; participates in peer mentoring; and supervises students. You may provide clinical supervision to Therapy Assistants, Therapy Aides and Provisional Physiotherapists.

Required Qualifications

Additional Required Qualifications

This is an ON-SITE position. This position involves working with a multi-disciplinary team to provide COPD education and interventions to enhance the quality of life for COPD clients in the community. Knowledge and experience working with Seniors is required. You will be reporting to the Seniors Central Care Manager and there is an expectation to be a mobile worker. This role requires travel within the city of Calgary including caring for clients in their homes or in the community. You will be responsible to operate a laptop computer and mobile phone, and for manual handling (lifting, lowering, carrying, pushing and pulling) as a regular part of the job. For example: lifting of approximately 30 pounds in and out of a vehicle on a regular basis and carrying this weight up and down stairs throughout the day is common within this job. Learning resources and training are provided to safely perform work.

Preferred Qualifications

Certified Respiratory Educator Certification 2 years Home Care experience preferred. Excellent organizational and time management skills- able to efficiently organize many details in a time efficient manner. Proven critical thinking and decision-making skills. Proven ability to work in a multidisciplinary team. Strong communication and education skills. Strong computer skills.
