Detailed Overview

Under general direction of the Professional Practice Chief, Physiotherapy, the Physiotherapist assesses, plans, implements, and monitors physiotherapy treatment to patients/residents. Delegates components of treatment to Assistants/Aides. As part of the interdisciplinary team, acts as a resource on issues relating to areas of physiotherapy expertise. Participates in development, implementation, and evaluation of clinical physiotherapy practice, including philosophy, goals, objectives, policies, procedures, continuous quality improvement and risk management of the physiotherapy services.

Responsibilities
  1. Provides clinical physiotherapy treatment, including assessment, problem identification, setting treatment goals, treatments and re-evaluation of patients/residents and patients in the community. Educates patients/residents and their families in aspects of the physiotherapy treatment. Obtains patient/resident history from chart, interviews and observation, as well as information provided at patient/resident conferences and team meetings. As a member of the interdisciplinary team, makes recommendations for treatment, to ensure quality patient/resident care.
  2. Delegates components of treatment to Assistants/Aides by instructing, observing and monitoring treatment provided to ensure quality patient/resident care. Provides input to the Professional Practice Chief, Physiotherapy for the performance evaluation of the Assistants/Aides
  3. Promotes awareness of good body mechanics to facility staff, patients/residents and families by methods such as modeling, making presentations and acting as a resource to staff, patients/residents and/or families by providing information and answering questions related to physiotherapy.
  4. Maintains patient/resident records, clinical outcome measures and statistical data in accordance with department, facility, and professional standards.
  5. Participates in development, implementation, and evaluation of the physiotherapy service by providing input and feedback to the Professional Practice Chief, Physiotherapy regarding philosophy, goals, objectives, policies, procedures, continuous quality improvement, and risk management.
  6. Participates in interdisciplinary, departmental and professional development to ensure awareness of current developments of evidence based physiotherapy practice.
  7. Provides instruction, feedback, and supervision to students as required.
  8. Performs other related duties as required.
Qualifications

Education and Experience

Graduate of a recognized program in Physiotherapy from an accredited university. Current full registration with the College of Health and Care Professionals of BC and eligible for membership in the Physiotherapy Association of British Columbia (PABC).

  • Demonstrated knowledge of the College of Health and Care Professionals of BC standards for practice of physical therapy.
