Job summary

AtkinsRéalis Group in Canada is seeking a Physics student for a Winter 2027 co-op placement. You will support the Core Physics Team with daily tasks, including inputs for reactor physics codes and analyses for design, operation and safety.

You'll gain hands-on coding experience (C++, Python, FORTRAN) and use MATLAB, ETAP and MathCAD in a hybrid work setting while collaborating across disciplines and promoting team success.

Qualifications

• Strong foundation in physics and mathematics; knowledge in reactor, nuclear or particle physics.
• Familiarity with analytical/design tools such as MATLAB, ETAP, and MathCAD.
• Proficient coding in C++, Python, FORTRAN; Linux experience is an asset.
• Microsoft Office proficiency; security clearance ability is mandatory.

Responsibilities

• Assist engineers, discipline leads, and the Core Physics Team with daily engineering tasks, including inputs for reactor physics codes and supporting analyses for reactor design, operation, and safety.
• Contribute to development and assembly of engineering, physics, and math deliverables for nuclear and conventional systems.
• Support adaptation or modification of codes for specialized applications.
• Interface with multidisciplinary teams and coordinate assigned tasks.
• Assist with departmental administrative tasks and promote a collaborative, team-oriented environment.

Functionally reporting to the Engineering division, the student will be assigned to support various engineering projects as well as support engineering functional and project management on as needed basis. The role will provide hands-on experience in various engineering projects, offering valuable insights into industry and practical application of engineering principles. **Duration:** We are currently seeking students available for a **Winter 2027 co-op placement**. Opportunities are available for students seeking **4, 8, 12, or 16-month work terms**, with placements beginning in **January 2027**. ## Your role* Assist engineers, discipline leads, and the Core Physics Team with daily engineering tasks, including preparing inputs for and running reactor physics codes, and supporting analyses for reactor design, operation, and safety.* Contribute to the development and assembly of engineering, physics, and math deliverables for nuclear and conventional systems. Support the adaptation or modification of computer codes for specialized applications.* Interface with multidisciplinary teams and project sectors to coordinate assigned tasks. Facilitate document reviews, RFI responses, and attend technical and coordination meetings.* Assist with departmental administrative tasks and promote a collaborative, team-oriented work environment. ## About you* Strong foundation in physics and mathematics; desirable knowledge in reactor, nuclear, or particle physics. Familiarity with analytical/design tools such as MATLAB, ETAP, and MathCAD.* Skilled in coding (e.g., C++, Python, FORTRAN); experience with Linux operating systems is an asset.* Proficient in Microsoft Office (Word, Excel, PowerPoint); prior experience in the nuclear industry is advantageous.* Ability to apply theoretical principles to develop practical engineering solutions.* Strong written and verbal communication, presentation, and interpersonal skills.* Excellent planning, multitasking, and coordination skills.
