Job summary

Xanadu is seeking a Photonics Laboratory Technician in Toronto, responsible for complex packaging processes and equipment operation in the quantum computer development team. With a focus on hands-on expertise in device integration, the role demands a detail-oriented, self-motivated individual skilled in collaborating on complex projects.

The financial package includes a base salary of CAD 80,000 - 100,000 along with equity and benefits. Evening shifts from 2 p.m. to 10 p.m. will be required, ensuring flexibility for training and adaptation.

Qualifications

  • 2+ years experience working in a laboratory/cleanroom environment.
  • Experience in the ball and/or wedge wirebonding.
  • Experience operating wafer dicing process.
  • Experience handling wafers and sensitive optoelectronic assemblies.
  • Basic knowledge of semiconductor fabrication/packaging processes.
  • Experience in designing simple printed circuit boards (PCBs).

Responsibilities

  • Operate complex packaging processes/equipment.
  • Provide laboratory support for assembly and characterization of photonic assemblies.
  • Apply integration and assembly skills on quantum hardware.

Your role and responsibilities

As part of the Packaging Team within the Hardware group in Toronto, you will utilize your hands‑on expertise in advanced device integration and sample preparation to contribute directly to Xanadu's rack‑scale quantum computer development. In the role of Photonics Laboratory Technician, you will be responsible for the operation of complex packaging processes/equipment. Join a growing team to provide crucial laboratory support for the assembly, and characterization of complex photonic assemblies, applying your integration and assembly skills to our leading‑edge quantum hardware.

Basic qualifications and experience
  • BSc (or higher) in Engineering, Science, or related relevant field.
  • 2+ years experience working in a laboratory/cleanroom environment.
  • Experience in the ball and/or wedge wirebonding.
  • Experience operating wafer dicing process.
  • Experience handling wafers and sensitive optoelectronic assemblies.
  • Basic knowledge of semiconductor fabrication/packaging processes.
  • Experience in designing simple printed circuit boards (PCBs).
  • Basic knowledge in microscopy techniques.
  • Self‑motivated, comfortable working both independently and collaboratively with people of all disciplines on complex projects in a fast‑paced environment.
  • Detail‑oriented with a positive attitude towards work
Preferred qualifications and experience
  • Experience with semi‑automatic wire bonders using Au and Al wire.
  • Working proficiency of Python programming.
  • Experience in the failure analysis techniques.
  • Experience with wafer cleaving processes.
  • Familiarity with relevant industry standards and regulations.
  • Strong problem‑solving skills and experience in troubleshooting processes and equipment failures

Given the nature of the primary duties and responsibilities of this role, it is an essential term and condition of this role that the core hours of work will involve an evening shift schedule of Monday to Friday from 2 p.m. to 10 p.m., subject to change to meet company needs. For the initial training period, the work hours will be 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. Monday to Friday.

This is for an existing position. Your base salary will be determined based on your location, experience, and internal benchmarks. The base salary range is 80,000 - 100,000 CAD. You will also be eligible for equity and benefits.
