Job summary

Overview

CHEO is seeking a Pharmacy Technician to support the Pharmacy Department which operates 24 hours daily, 7 days a week. The position requires day, evening, weekend and night shifts.

Base pay range

CA$32.03/hr - CA$38.91/hr

Job Description

Under a pharmacist’s supervision the Pharmacy Technician:

  • Performs all the tasks defined in the NAPRA Standards Practice for Pharmacy Technician practice from the Ontario College of Pharmacists (OCP).
  • Keeps up to date with workflow processes of the pharmacy department and hospital based on pharmacy standards and regulatory requirements.
  • Dispenses, verifies and delivers inpatient and outpatient prescriptions.
  • Distributes and maintains inventory of all pharmaceuticals, including formulary, non-formulary, controlled substances, SAP, and drug studies.
  • Maintains stock of pharmaceuticals, labels, containers, and other supplies within the pharmacy work areas.
  • Records and reports shortages of pharmaceuticals or supplies to the appropriate order list and the pharmacy buyer.
  • Maintains stock on clinical wards and ambulatory clinics as required; ensures non-expired pharmaceuticals and participates in stock rotation.
  • Prioritizes, initiates and completes the Patients Best Possible Medication History and highlights discrepancies to the pharmacist.
  • Keeps work areas clean, organized, and functional; maintains equipment and automation.
  • Reports product defects and medication errors to the pharmacist and completes incident reports.
  • Maintains records of pharmacy-related activities and participates in statistical reports for the Pharmacy Department.
  • Participates in pharmacy technician work rotation including weekend and night shifts; participates in departmental meetings and special projects as required.
  • Participates in training and orientation of new personnel and in departmental quality assurance activities.
  • Works cooperatively with colleagues and maintains professional conduct.
  • Performs any other duties as assigned and covers Kid Care Pharmacy as required.
Qualifications
  • Graduate of an accredited college Pharmacy Technician Program (Essential)
  • Licensed as a Pharmacy Technician with the Ontario College of Pharmacists (Essential)
  • Minimum of two (2) years related experience (Preferred)
  • Maintains competency on all equipment and automation (Essential)
  • Maintains sterile and non-sterile certifications yearly (Essential)
