Job description

Your Opportunity:

Practicing within their full scope, the Pharmacy Technician performs all aspects of drug distribution to provide for the effective daily operation of all departmental services and programs leading to safe and effective patient care. Core duties may include, but are not limited to: Preparation, repackaging and final product checking of sterile and non-sterile products, individual patient prescriptions, and ward stock. Providing guidance to and assisting with the training and orientation of staff and students. Providing clinical support through obtaining information to facilitate medication reconciliation activities and clarifies discrepancies and/or collects and organizes information to support the provision of direct patient care Building interactive relationships with all members of the healthcare team including communicating with nursing staff to clarify orders and requests, triaging drug information questions and distribution issues Maintaining a high standard of performance through completion of internal validation programs that assess proficiency in identified tasks such as aseptic technique, computer order entry, and final product checking. Participating in special projects and programs as assigned. Maintaining department records, statistics and preparing reports as required. In addition to a competitive rate of pay, AHS currently has a Remote Retention Allowance in place to an annual maximum of $3,000. This allowance is non-pensionable and is payable on an hourly basis for all hours paid at the basic rate of pay.

As a Pharmacy Technician I, you will be responsible for the preparation and distribution of pharmaceutical products. You will receive and triage medication orders, compound and repackage medication and prepare sterile and non-sterile pharmaceutical products.

Required Qualifications:

Completion of a CCAPP-accredited Pharmacy Technician Training Program. Active or eligible for registration with the Alberta College of Pharmacy (ACP) as a Pharmacy Technician.

Additional Required Qualifications:

Demonstrated communication (verbal and written), interpersonal, organizational and problem-solving skills. Demonstrated ability to work in teams. Demonstrated computer or word processing skills. Committed to continual personal quality improvement and lifelong learning. Able to comply with ACP standards of practice for sterile and non-sterile compounding.

Preferred Qualifications:

Local site knowledge or experience is an asset. Prior hospital experience with a variety of responsibilities including but not limited to automated dispensing cabinets and sterile compounding (preferred). Prior experience in retail pharmacy setting (preferred). Membership with a pharmacy professional organization is preferred.
