Your Opportunity

As a member of the Sacred Heart Health Center, located in McLennan, the Pharmacy Assistant will work with Pharmacy Technicians & Pharmacists to their full scope of practice. Under limited supervision of the Operations Manager, and the direct supervision of a pharmacist or Pharmacy Technician. This position can possibly cover casually in surrounding sites if interested. Core duties may include, but are not limited to:

  • Transports pharmacy items between pharmacy, patient care areas & other departments.
  • Monitors, orders and receives pharmacy inventory and supplies according to established quotas.
  • Performs all tasks involving medication ward stock, including inventory transfer.
  • Participates in narcotics distribution according to established procedures.
  • Prints and distributes reports from pharmacy computer systems.
  • Performs routine physical cleaning & maintenance on pharmacy equipment.
  • Completes records & filing associated with all duties.
  • Communicates unit-based issues to other pharmacy staff for resolution.
  • Participates in hospital, departmental and/or quality assurance activities to ensure standards are maintained.
  • Assists in training and orientation of new employees.
  • Maintains site-specific standards of performance, including achievement of mandatory internal certifications.
  • Performs other duties deemed necessary.

This allowance is non-pensionable and is payable on an hourly basis for all hours paid at the basic rate of pay.

Required Qualifications

Completion of Grade 12 or equivalent.

Additional Required Qualifications

Basic knowledge of purchasing, receiving, and inventory control of pharmaceuticals to minimize outdated medications. Must be fluent in the English language (written and verbal). Excellent communication, interpersonal, and time management skills. Must be able to follow oral and written instructions. Good organizational, problem solving and decision-making ability. Must display tact, courtesy, discretion, and respect confidentiality. Must be accurate, reliable, precise, co-operative, able to demonstrate effective service attitude, and self-motivated. Must be able to work both independently and co-operatively in a team environment. Must be able to adapt to recent technologies and changing workflow patterns. Familiarity with the operation of various office equipment, unit dose packaging equipment and pharmaceutical compounding equipment. Must be in good physical condition as most shifts involve heavy lifting, standing, crouching, pushing, pulling, kneeling, walking, and standing for extended periods.

Preferred Qualifications

Recent hospital pharmacy related experience and a working knowledge of Pharmacy terms and medication names. Graduate of a recognized pharmacy assistant program and/or recent hospital/retail pharmacy experience. 1+ year experience in hospital pharmacy supporting rural sites. Knowledge of EPIC (Pharmacy Module) computer software.
