A healthcare provider in Alberta is looking for a Pharmacy Assistant to manage medication distribution and inventory under the supervision of pharmacists. This part-time position based in Didsbury requires effective communication skills and reliability. Candidates should have Grade 12 completion and knowledge of pharmacy terms. The role includes assisting with training staff and maintaining high performance standards. A competitive salary is offered, with specific working hours on weekdays.
Pharmacy assistants perform various medication-related duties including: distribution and packaging of medications; management and replenishment of medication inventory levels; and moderately complex clerical duties in accordance with standard procedure. Core duties may include, but are not limited to: inventory management including ordering, receiving, and storage of medications (including automated dispensing machines). Packaging and repackaging of medications. Filling medication orders, (including patient specific medications, ward stock, code and other trays). Delivering medications/documents to/from patient care areas and pharmacy. Prepare and compound medications under supervision. Building interactive relationships with all members of the healthcare team including communicating with nursing staff to clarify medication inventory, storage and distribution issues. Maintaining a high standard of performance through completion of internal validation programs that assess proficiency in identified tasks such as narcotic control. Participating in special projects and programs as assigned. Providing guidance to and assisting with the training and orientation of staff and students. Maintaining department records, statistics and preparing reports as required.
PLEASE NOTE: This position is located outside the Calgary City Limits and will be based out of Didsbury, Alberta.
As a Pharmacy Assistant, you will be responsible for the packaging, distributing, shipping medications and the management and replenishment of medication inventory levels under the general supervision of Pharmacists and Pharmacy Technicians.
Completion of Grade 12 or equivalent.
Working knowledge of Pharmacy terms and medication names. Graduate of a recognized pharmacy assistant program and/or Recent Retail or hospital pharmacy experience acceptable to the employer. Must be accurate, reliable, precise, cooperative, self-motivated and able to demonstrate effective service attitude. Experience with Windows-based computer applications and typing skills. Fluency in the English language (both written and verbal). Connect Care/EPIC Willow Pharmacy application knowledge/access. Note: English language proficiency requirements based on ACP Pharmacy Technician registration (NAPRA). This may be included in education programs. Assessment may be made during interviews.
Demonstrates excellent communication, interpersonal and time management skills. Demonstrates good organizational, problem-solving and decision-making ability. Displays professionalism, tact, courtesy, discretion and respects confidentiality. Pharmacy experience or diploma preferred. Site experience preferred. Rural Hospital experience preferred.
