Job summary

Alberta Health Services through Central Production Pharmacy seeks a Pharmacy Assistant to support packaging, distribution, and inventory management across Alberta under supervision from Pharmacists and Pharmacy Technicians.

You will assist with labeling, repackaging, and replenishing carts and ward stock, using automated systems, while maintaining accuracy, confidentiality, and teamwork in a dynamic setting.

Qualifications

• Completion of Grade 12 or equivalent.
• Graduate of recognized pharmacy assistant program with 1 year of recent retail or hospital pharmacy experience.
• Minimum of 1 year of recent retail or hospital pharmacy experience (within the last 2 years).
• Familiarity with automated packaging equipment and Willow Pharmacy (Connect Care) is an asset.

As a Pharmacy Assistant at Central Production Pharmacy, you’ll play a key role in ensuring patients across Alberta receive safe, timely, and effective medication. Working under the supervision of Pharmacists and Pharmacy Technicians, you will assist with medication repackaging, distribution, delivery, and inventory management. Daily tasks include selecting and labeling medications, operating repackaging equipment, replenishing patient specific carts and ward stock, and performing ordering and receiving duties. You’ll use automated and computerized systems to support accuracy and efficiency. Strong verbal and written English communication skills, attention to detail, and a commitment to confidentiality and teamwork are essential. You will also mentor and train other Pharmacy Assistants, new staff, and students. The ideal candidate demonstrates accuracy, professionalism, reliability, and the ability to succeed in a dynamic and continually evolving environment. You must be able to follow instructions, work independently and collaboratively, and adapt to changing workflows and technologies. Physical demands include visual acuity, keyboarding, heavy lifting and grip strength, twisting, crouching, bending, reaching, pushing, pulling, kneeling, and extended periods of standing and walking. Required Qualifications:
Completion of Grade 12 or equivalent.
Additional Required Qualifications:
Graduate of recognized pharmacy assistant program. A minimum of 1 year of recent retail or hospital pharmacy experience (within the last 2 years). Physical requirements include lifting, up to 30 lbs. regularly and up to 50 lbs. occasionally, plus frequent pushing, pulling, and extended standing or sitting.
Preferred Qualifications:
Experience in a hospital pharmacy or similar setting, particularly with automated packaging equipment and Willow Pharmacy (Connect Care), is considered an asset. Familiarity with pharmaceutical or medical terminology is also advantageous.
