Ready to make a difference in healthcare? Join us as a Pharmacy Assistant in Peter Lougheed Centre (PLC), where you'll support pharmacists, healthcare professionals, correctional staff, and external partners in providing essential pharmaceutical care to support safe and effective patient care. Working in a secure environment under the supervision of a pharmacist or pharmacy technician, you’ll help prepare and distribute medications using automated and computerized systems. As a Pharmacy Assistant, your duties include medication preparation, repackaging, administrative and customer service tasks such as answering phones, assisting customers, and data entry. Other responsibilities include accurate stocking of medication carts, receiving Pharmacy Department orders, accurate record keeping, communicating with nursing staff, and delivery of pharmaceuticals throughout the hospital.

We are looking for an individual who is a motivated, self‑directed team player who thrives both independently and collaboratively. This role involves walking and standing for long periods of time, lifting up to 30 lbs. regularly (and occasionally up to 50 lbs.), repetitive bending, pushing, pulling, twisting, and carrying. Flexible availability of working including weekdays, evenings, and weekends is required.

As a Pharmacy Assistant, you will be responsible for the packaging, distributing, shipping medications and the management and replenishment of medication inventory levels under the general supervision of Pharmacists and Pharmacy Technicians.

Required Qualifications
  • Completion of Grade 12 or equivalent.
  • Graduate of a recognized pharmacy assistant program and/or a minimum of 1 year hospital experience or 2 years retail experience within the last five years.
  • Required to lift up to 30 lbs. and occasionally 50 lb., push/pull carts, twisting, and repetitive bending.
  • Must be able to stand and walk for long periods at a time.
  • Pharmaceutical deliveries will be required to all areas within the hospitals and correction sites.
  • Flexible availability of working including weekdays, evenings, and weekends is required.
Preferred Qualifications
  • Knowledge of the Pharmacy Drug Formulary is an asset.
  • Inpatient hospital pharmacy experience is preferred.
  • Experience using the Epic (Connect Care) system is preferred.
  • Minimum of 1 year of experience handling narcotics.
  • Minimum of 1 year of experience in inventory management.
  • PLC experience is preferred.
