Job summary

Alberta Health Services in Calgary is seeking a Pharmacy Assistant to support packaging, distribution, shipping medications and inventory management under supervision of pharmacists and technicians. This role helps ensure safe, timely medication delivery across Alberta and offers opportunities for training within a fast-paced team.

The ideal candidate has a pharmacy assistant program graduate with at least one year of retail or hospital experience; exhibits accuracy, reliability, and teamwork;

Qualifications

• Completion of Grade 12 or equivalent.
• Graduate of recognized pharmacy assistant program. A minimum of 1 year of recent retail or hospital pharmacy experience (within the last 2 years).
• Physical requirements include lifting, up to 30 lbs. regularly and up to 50 lbs. occasionally, plus frequent pushing, pulling, and extended standing or sitting.

Responsibilities

• Packaging, distributing, shipping medications and the management and replenishment of medication inventory levels under the general supervision of Pharmacists and Pharmacy Technicians.
• Selecting and labeling medications, operating repackaging equipment, replenishing patient specific carts and ward stock, and performing ordering and receiving duties.
• Use of automated and computerized systems to support accuracy and efficiency.
• Mentoring and training other Pharmacy Assistants, new staff, and students.

You’ll use automated and computerized systems to support accuracy and efficiency. Strong verbal and written English communication skills, attention to detail, and a commitment to confidentiality and teamwork are essential. You will also mentor and train other Pharmacy Assistants, new staff, and students.The ideal candidate demonstrates accuracy, professionalism, reliability, and the ability to succeed in a dynamic and continually evolving environment. You must be able to follow instructions, work independently and collaboratively, and adapt to changing workflows and technologies. Physical demands include visual acuity, keyboarding, heavy lifting and grip strength, twisting, crouching, bending, reaching, pushing, pulling, kneeling, and extended periods of standing and walking. Preferred Qualifications:

Experience in a hospital pharmacy or similar setting, particularly with automated packaging equipment and Willow Pharmacy (Connect Care), is considered an asset. Familiarity with pharmaceutical or medical terminology is also advantageous.
