Job summary

New Horizon Co-op is seeking a Full-time Pharmacist at our Trader Ridge Food Store in Grande Prairie, Alberta. You will advise on prescriptions and OTC products, dispense medications, and help manage pharmacy operations to ensure high-quality patient care.

The role emphasizes regulatory compliance, staff training, and a strong team environment within a cooperative framework. Prior Alberta pharmacy experience and Class A license are preferred.

Qualifications

• Post-secondary – Bachelor of Science, Pharmacy and Class A Pharmacists license in good standing with the Alberta College of Pharmacy
• Demonstrated professional competencies with outstanding communication, interpersonal and organizational skills
• Strong technical and analytical skills
• Attentive to detail and able to remain calm under pressure

Responsibilities

• Provide professional advice on prescriptions, treatment plans and OTC products to ensure excellent customer experience and patient loyalty
• Prepare, control and dispense medications by reviewing physician orders and advising interventions
• Ensure medication and OTC inventory levels meet patients’ needs
• Assist Pharmacy Manager with paperwork, scheduling, and supervising technicians' workflow
• Comply with drug laws and maintain records for controlled substances
• Provide ongoing training for pharmacy staff
• Maintain safe and clean working environment per health and safety regulations
• Adhere to all legislation and professional standards

What you’ll do:

• Provide professional advice on prescriptions, treatment plans and Over- the-Counter (OTC) products in a friendly, courteous and well-informed manner to ensure that clients have an excellent customer experience and patient loyalty is maximized
• Prepare, control and dispense medications by reviewing and interpreting physician orders, monitoring drug therapies and advising interventions
• Ensure medication and over the counter supplements inventory levels are adequate to meet patients’ needs
• Whenever necessary, assist the Pharmacy Manager with paperwork, scheduling, and other supervisory tasks including organizing and directing technicians' workflow, verifying their preparation and labeling of pharmaceuticals, order entries, charges, and inspections
• Comply with drug laws as regulated by the Alberta College of Pharmacists and maintain records for controlled substances
• Provide on-going training for all pharmacy support personnel (technicians, interns, assistants)
• Maintain safe and clean working environment by complying with established health and safety regulation
• Ensure adherence to all applicable legislation and excellence in pharmacy practice and professional standards
