Job summary

M'Chigeeng First Nation is hiring a Personal Support Worker (PSW) in Ontario. The PSW will provide essential support services and personal care to clients in their daily living activities within the Home Care Program and community. Responsibilities include assisting clients with personal care, maintaining safety protocols, and linking with necessary services.

Qualified candidates should have a PSW Certificate or Health Care Aide Certificate, relevant experience, and current First Aid/CPR certification. Knowledge of Ojibwe culture and language is preferred.

Qualifications

  • Minimum of two years related work experience.
  • Current First Aid/CPR Certification required.
  • Fluency in the Ojibwe language is an asset.

Personal Support Worker (PSW)

Department: Health Services – Wellness Centre

Employment Status: Regular Full-time (1) and Casual On-Call (Please Indicate which you’re applying for)

Classification: Community Services 2

Salary: $23.28 – $28.45/ hour

Availability: Evening and Weekend

Reporting Relationship

The Personal Support Worker will work under the direction of the Home Care Program Manager.

Position Summary

The Personal Support Worker will provide support services and personal care (depending on scheduled shifts) to the clients in their daily living activities within the Home Care Program and in the community of M’Chigeeng.

Essential Functions
  • Assist clients with personal care as assigned by immediate supervisor or designate.
  • Follow responsibilities outlined in Shift Duty Schedule.
  • Report safety issues to Home Care Program Manager.
  • Maintain a clean and safe environment.
  • Provide linkages with internal and external services as it relates to the care of clients, including Workplace Health & Safety standards.
  • Assist clients with personal care, daily living and related functions as per needs outlined in individual care plans.
  • Assist in the delivery of client care plan as assigned.
  • Maintain accurate daily reports for effective client care.
  • Report changes or concerns of clients’ health to the HCC Nurse/Long Term Care Nurse.
  • Maintain confidentiality and professionalism in relation to all client services.
  • Complete other duties as assigned by Program Manager.
Qualifications & Requirements

Preferred:

  • Personal Support Worker Certificate with a minimum of two (2) years related work experience.
  • Valid Ontario Driver’s License and access to own transportation is an asset.

Minimum:

  • Health Care Aide Certificate with two (2) years related work experience.

Other:

  • Must have current First Aid/CPR Certification.
  • Strong interpersonal, oral and written communication skills.
  • Able to work shift work and flexible hours.
  • Experience working with the elderly is an asset.
  • Ability to work within a team environment.
  • Knowledge of the Ojibwe culture and traditions; fluency in the Ojibwe language is an asset.
  • Criminal Reference Check and Vulnerable Sector Screening (dated within 30 days, original or certified copy).

CRC/VSS Rationale: M’Chigeeng First Nation and its agents are in a position of trust in services to band member children and/or vulnerable adults, so a safe and secure working environment is mandatory. Applicants must provide a clear VSS Certificate and/or dated of any convictions relating to sexual interference, sexual assault or related charges. The VSS must be current (30 days) and must be an original.

Preference will be given to Anishinabek people.
