Job summary

South East Cornerstone Public School Division invites applications for a Student Services Counsellor. The position will work 0.5 FTE (18.75 hours/week) at MacLeod Elementary School and Wapella School in Moosomin and Wapella, SK, starting as soon as possible.

Reporting to the Mental Health Consultant, you will assess and support students, provide therapeutic activities, and collaborate with families and school staff.

Qualifications

• Bachelor of Social Work or equivalent.
• Minimum of 3 years of experience as a social worker or equivalent.
• 2+ years training/experience with child, youth & family counselling.
• Valid Driver's License.

Responsibilities

• Participate as an active member of the Student Services team and contribute to the vision and mission.
• Assess students within their educational setting to evaluate strength, needs and areas for intervention.
• Provide ongoing assessment and intervention through therapeutic activities to support functioning in education, home and community.
• Provide written reports to parents and school division personnel for each student assessed or served.
• Discharge students from active caseload in consultation with parents and school personnel.
• Provide classroom and group supports as needed.
• Communicate with parents, administrators and teachers regarding assessments and recommendations.
• Participate in IIP and school-based team meetings as required.
• Assist with well-being and social skills goals for IIP and work with students to implement goals.
• Consult with Student Services consultants and school staff for follow-up on students.
• Provide referrals to outside agencies and Student Services Consultants as needed.
• Deliver workshops and in-service in areas of expertise to teachers and educational assistants.
• Collaborate with Student Services team to provide comprehensive services, sharing information when appropriate.
• Apply ethics and professional standards observant of laws and guidelines.
• Submit annual report to the Student Services Coordinator with required documentation.

• Consult with Student Services consultant and/or school based personnel to provide appropriate follow up on students.
• Provides referrals and recommendations to outside agencies and Student Services Consultants as needed.
• Provide workshops and in-service in the areas of expertise to teachers, educational assistants and others when requested.
• Work collaboratively with Student Services team to provide comprehensive services to students. This may involve meeting with parents/guardians and/or other service providers to share information when appropriate and permissable to do so.
• Apply ethics and standards of professional practice in the delivery of school-based student services observing relevant laws, regulations and guidelines.
• Submit an annual report to the Student Services Coordinator and provide documentation and reports as required.

Qualifications

• Bachelor of Social Work degree or equivalent degree.
• A minimum of 3 years experience as a social worker or equivalent.
• 2 or more years training and experience with child, youth and family counselling.
• A current and valid Driver's License.
• Commitment to the ideals of public education as well as the mission, vision and guiding principles of the South East Cornerstone Public School Division.

Salary & Benefits

• Salary and benefits are in accordance with the currently negotiated CUPE Collective Agreement as listed on our website . The starting wage for this position is currently $45.33 per hour along with a full benefit package and an employer defined pension plan.
