TITLE: Residential Support Worker Direct Care Worker I

STATUS: Permanent Part Time

Number Required: (1) Position Available

Wage Range: Wage range as per current Collective Agreement

Starting Date: To be determined

Shifts: Scheduled as per the current Collective Agreement

Position Summary: To support people who have a developmental disability in developing lifestyles and skills to promote integration, friendships, and citizenship in the community.

Posting Date: August 26th, 2025

Closing Date: Open until position filled

Responsibilities
  • Post Employment: Ongoing professional development through specialty workshops and courses.
  • Direction Received/Independent Action: Chooses procedures and adapts methods/process to suit a person’s needs and requests; occasionally participates in development of changes to procedures based on Ministry policy.
  • Works in partnership with the Adult Protective Services Worker.
  • Follows policies and procedures of SGACL, Collective Agreements, and safety legislation.
  • Work is not routine; times of work are flexible. Work independently to carry out assessments, establish Individual Support Plans and deliver programs. Medical advice with regard to health problems is available from doctors.
  • Supervision/Direction of Other Employees: Not normally responsible for supervision of others.
  • Service Authority: Complete functional and environmental assessments for people supported; assist with leisure and recreational activities; schedule medical and dental appointments and accompany as needed; provide emergency assistance or first aid; liaise with human service organizations and family; provide transportation as needed.
  • Service Accountability: Adhere to SGACL’s Employee Conduct Policy and maintain confidentiality; participate in job performance evaluations; upgrade skills; provide leadership and be a role model; assist people to balance their financial affairs; document assessments and medical/dental visits; record communications with the Adult Protective Services Worker.
  • Working Relationships: Advocate with Community Agencies/organizations; liaise with family/relatives.
Pre-Employment Responsibilities
  • Grade twelve diploma or equivalent
  • Experience in supporting people living independently in the community, with a developmental disability
  • Valid First Aid and C.P.R. certificates
  • Valid driver’s license
  • Excellent oral and written communication skills and experience using a computer
  • Awareness of services and support available within the community, networks and linkages available to people who have a developmental disability
  • Available for flexible hours
