A regional health authority in Courtenay is seeking a Perioperative Assistant to support nursing staff and ensure patient safety in a busy operating room. Key responsibilities include transporting clients, assisting with equipment, and maintaining a clean environment. The ideal candidate should have Grade 10 education, completion of a Nursing Assistant Program, and effective communication skills. This role offers the opportunity to contribute meaningfully to patient care in a collaborative team environment.
In accordance with the Vision, Purpose, and Values, and strategic direction of the Vancouver Island Health Authority (Island Health), patient and staff safety is a priority and a responsibility shared by everyone; as such, the requirement to continuously improve quality and safety is inherent in all aspects of this position. Within the context of a client and family centered care model and under general supervision, the Perioperative Assistant is a member of an integrated care team by performing duties such as transporting/escorting clients to and from required areas using stretchers and wheelchairs, moving, setting up and positioning a variety of equipment within the operating room suites, assisting nursing and technical staff with the lifting, positioning and transferring of clients and maintaining supplies for designated areas, and cleaning equipment and storage areas as required within a high volume operating room environment.
Picks up and delivers equipment, supplies and other items as assigned and operates a facsimile and/or photocopier as required.
Grade 10 plus graduation from a recognized Nursing Assistant Program or an equivalent combination of education, training and experience. Registered with the BC Care Aide registry.
