Job summary

Otipemisiwak Métis Government in Edmonton, AB, is seeking a People Development Coordinator to support onboarding, training, and workforce development in the Education, Training and Research department. You will coordinate learning initiatives, maintain training modules, track compliance, and collaborate with leaders to build capacity across the organization.

This role emphasizes confidentiality, organizational learning, and continuous improvement, with a focus on Métis culture and workplace

Qualifications

  • Post-secondary degree or diploma in Education, Learning and Development, HR, or a related field.
  • Minimum of 5 years' experience in a corporate learning and development role.
  • Experience working with Indigenous organizations, governments, or community-based initiatives is considered an asset.

Responsibilities

  • Coordinate employee onboarding, orientation, and probationary review processes to support successful integration into the organization.
  • Develop, maintain, and continuously improve internal training modules, learning resources, and employee development materials.
  • Conduct training needs assessments and collaborate with departments to identify workforce development priorities.
  • Coordinate and facilitate in-person, virtual, and self-directed learning opportunities for employees.
  • Monitor and track completion of mandatory training, system training (including FDM, KETO, and other organizational systems), and compliance requirements.
  • Support managers in the administration, tracking, and completion of employee performance reviews and development plans.
  • Implement evaluation tools and feedback mechanisms to measure training effectiveness and support continuous improvement.
  • Coordinate leadership development, succession planning, and employee capacity-building initiatives across the organization.
  • Maintain accurate training records, development metrics, and organizational learning reports.
  • Research, recommend, and coordinate external learning and professional development opportunities that align with organizational priorities.
  • Perform other related duties as assigned.

People Development Coordinator – Education, Training and Research

Location: Edmonton, AB

Closing Date: Until Suitable Candidate is Found

Position Status: One (1) Full-time (40 hours/week), One Year Contract (with possibility of extension)

The Otipemisiwak Métis Government is seeking a highly organized and collaborative People Development Coordinator to join our Education, Training and Research department in our Edmonton office. Reporting to the Associate Director of Operations - Education, Training and Research, the successful candidate will play a key role in supporting employee growth, organizational learning, and workforce capacity across the organization.The People Development Coordinator will be responsible for coordinating employee onboarding, orientation, training, and professional development initiatives, ensuring staff have the knowledge, tools, and resources necessary to succeed in their roles. The position will oversee the development, maintenance, and continuous improvement of internal training modules and learning resources, while ensuring employees complete mandatory training requirements and organizational systems training, including FDM, KETO, and other internal processes.

Key Responsibilities
  • Coordinate employee onboarding, orientation, and probationary review processes to support successful integration into the organization.

  • Exceptional organizational and administrative skills with strong attention to detail.

  • Strong proficiency in Microsoft Office, including Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Outlook, and Teams.
  • Strong instructional design, facilitation, and consulting skills
  • Knowledge of adult learning principles and instructional design methodologies
  • Proficiency with eLearning technologies and content development tools
  • Advanced computer skills with the ability to quickly learn new software
  • Experience using Microsoft 365 applications, especially SharePoint
  • Demonstrated innovation, initiative, and results-oriented mindset
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills tailored to various audiences
  • High level of professionalism, confidentiality, and integrity
  • Experience with Learning Management Systems (LMS)
  • Experience preparing reports, presentations, meeting materials, and professional correspondence.
  • Strong interpersonal skills and ability to work effectively with leaders, staff, partners, and stakeholders.
  • Ability to handle confidential and sensitive information with discretion and professionalism.
  • Strong problem-solving and time-management skills.
  • Ability to work independently while maintaining a high level of accuracy and accountability.
  • Knowledge of data management and digital filing systems is an asset.
  • Knowledge of Métis history, culture, and issues affecting Métis people. An in-depth understanding of the Otipemisiwak Métis Government and Métis culture is an asset.
Qualifications
  • Post-secondary degree or diploma in Education, Learning and Development, Human Resources, or a related field
  • Minimum of 5 years' experience in a corporate learning and development role
  • Proven expertise in all phases of learning design, from needs analysis to evaluation
  • Experience supporting complex projects, multiple stakeholders, and fast-paced operational environments.
  • Strong organizational, communication, and problem-solving skills.
  • Experience working with Indigenous organizations, governments, or community-based initiatives is considered an asset.
Other Requirements
  • Ability to work a regular schedule Monday – Friday, 8:30 AM – 4:30 PM, with weekend and evening availability, as required.
  • Ability to travel throughout Alberta, on short notice, as required.
  • Reliable transportation and a valid Class 5 driver’s license.
  • Submission of a Police Information Check.
