Job summary

A community support agency in Surrey is looking for a PBLA Lead Instructor responsible for training ESL instructors and ensuring the effective implementation of PBLA in the program. This role involves assessing language assessment, facilitating workshops, and maintaining knowledge of Adult Education and settlement trends. Candidates must have a relevant degree, TESL certification, and at least 1 year of experience in Adult ESL Education. A Criminal Record Check is required.

Qualifications

  • Demonstrated knowledge of CLBs and PBLA.
  • Experience conducting adult ESL classes using video conferencing software.

Job description

The PBLA Lead Instructor is responsible for providing training, support and feedback to a team of ESL instructors. The PBLA Lead Instructor works closely with the Instructors, and the Manager to ensure PBLA implementation in the program. Planning and delivering language instruction to students including development of curriculum, preparation of teaching materials aligned with PBLA standards, and provision of settlement information to students.

DUTIES & RESPONSIBILITIES
  • Provides language assessment (PBLA) orientation and support to new instructors.
  • Makes recommendations to Instructors and Manager on optimal program setup for PBLA and on needed supports such as professional development, resources, and teaching aids.
  • Facilitate informal small-group discussions or learning groups to address common concerns in order to utilize classroom teachers as resources for one another.
  • Facilitate workshops related to PBLA implementation, such as the CCLB Professional Learning Sessions.
  • Give demonstration lessons to support colleagues.
  • Actively participate in a community of practice through the CCLB Lead Instructor forum.
  • Monitors and records student progress using PBLA.
  • Addresses any student-related concerns, reporting up as required.
  • Maintains current knowledge of Adult Education and TESL.
  • Maintains knowledge of current settlement trends in the local community.
QUALIFICATIONS
  • Baccalaureate degree from a recognized university in related field.
  • TESL certification from a TESL Canada recognized institute or equivalent.
  • PBLA Lead Instructor certification from Canadian Centre for Language Benchmarks.
  • Minimum 1 year experience in Adult ESL Education specifically ELSA or LINC, including minimum 32 weeks of using PBLA in the classroom.
  • Strong computer skills including use of MS Office Suite, Outlook.
  • Experience conducting adult ESL classes using video conferencing software and LMS is an asset.
  • Demonstrated knowledge of CLBs and PBLA through a combination of work experience and training in courses such as CLB Bootcamp and Introduction to PBLA for New Classroom Teachers.
  • Exceptional written and oral English language communication skills.
  • Ability to work independently and collaboratively in a dynamic group environment.
