Overview

Payroll Officer – Hybrid DT VCR (2 days in office / flexible)

Our client is a Crown corporation wholly owned by the Government of Canada who helps the Canadian tourism industry reach domestic and international markets.

To cover off for a current incumbent leave we are seeking an experienced full-time Payroll Specialist on an initial month-to-month basis. The possibility exists for future extensions, possibly long-term.

Responsibilities
  • Manages, plans and organizes payroll on a bi-weekly basis.
  • Performs changes within UKG (payroll system), reviews, provides feedback on and executes payroll transaction reports (PTR) from Human Resources (HR).
  • Calculates various adjustments, including overtime, vacation, final, retro and other pays.
  • Utilizes computer systems and software packages (i.e. UKG, SAP ByDesign, Excel, Word) to input and maintain compensation information, prepare spreadsheets and reports and use various financial systems.
  • Understands the scope and sources of legislation in Canada, the impact of legislation on payroll, the role of payroll in obtaining legislative changes, controls to ensure legislative compliance; how labour laws relate to payroll, company policy and/or union agreements, assessment of the financial impact of legislative changes, record retention, reporting requirements and timeframes.
  • Note: CPA designation is an asset.
Qualifications

• CPA designation is an asset.

• Experience with payroll processing, ideally in a government-related or Crown corporation context.

• Proficiency with UKG and SAP ByDesign, Microsoft Excel and Word.

• Strong understanding of Canadian payroll legislation and compliance requirements.
